I think lacrosse has its conference championships this weekend.

In the Mid-Atlantic region and northward?

Yes. Living in Baltimore, I never hear about Maryland's or any other schools baseball team. The local media loves them some Loyola and Johns Hopkins lacrosse though.

growing in popularity. Lacrosse will probably always be more popular in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Baseball will probably always be more popular in Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Arizona. Both are becoming national sports though.

In the traditional ACC footprint, both are popular and seem to be getting more popular every day. I enjoy them both. That said, I would rather watch Chapel Hill and Duke play lacrosse than Arkansas and Texas A&M play baseball. I would rather watch UVa and NC State play baseball than Loyola and Johns Hopkins play lacrosse.

People like what they're good at

Maryland has the Terps, Navy, and Loyola which are all good at lacrosse.
Same reason there are a lot of women's basketball fans in Tennessee but not in Clemson.

Watching baseball for the most part, is like watching paint dry.

Way too much down time.
