Is Best Still The Standard? Not lately. Mainly complacency

Last night was not a blip on the radar. The deterioration of what was once an emerging dynasty finally came fruition last night. It could’ve happened earlier in the season but the inevitable happened last night.
The complacency at the recruiting level, coaching hires and general we should be grateful for past successes attitude is going to hold this program back until Best In Standard means something again. Right now its just a big sign!

Our biggest problems started with some bad luck (or poor evaluations) of talent.
We recruited 2 five star WRs from California; both are OK players, but not in the same galaxy as our super players which carried us during starting with the 2015 CFP teams. Tee Higgins, Mike Williams, and Amari Rodgers ... these three hit the ground running as generational talents. Hunter Renfrow developed into a super stud (yes, super stud). Deion Cane and Ray Ray McCloud were both better than anyone we've got on our current WR Corp with the exception of Antonio Williams and (maybe before the end of the season) Adam Randall.
The lack of WR hosses handicaps even the great teams. Remember when both John Metchie and Jameson Williams of Alabama were hurt in the National Championship Game? Their fabulous offense turned to the Boston College offense, and the band struck up the funeral dirge.
The biggest coaching mistakes for our O coaches has to do with blitz management and blitz pick-up. Both RBs pick up the blitz well, but only Mafah actually executes the blocks on blitzers. Our other RB (the one that we all love ... including me) is simply terrible at the actual blocking of blitzes, whether the blitzers are safeties or LBs. The fact is that our O coaches either (a) can't coach up our favorite RB to pass block better or (b-1) have only Mafah in at RB in obvious passing situations -or- (b-2) have a two RB set in obvious passing situations ... with our favorite back either scooting out the side for a dump-off pass or for giving him the ball on a draw play.
(*) The above isn't to suggest that our O coaches are no good. It's just that their papering over the blitz / blitz management problem which was evident before ... but didn't cost us any losses because we were superior in talent to everyone in the first 8 games ... cost us because ND recognized those blitz-management deficiencies and killed our O last night because of that.
(***) The real test is to see if our O coaches finally make the blitz management adjustment, or whether they will get complacent hoping that our overall talent will again paper over the poor preparation for handling the blitz that we had in the first 9 games.

Love your idea of 2 back set! Hope they implement this soon. Did we do this some at the end of last year?

Y'all are unbelievable. From how you are talking you seem to think that what Alabama has done for ten years or more is the norm. Heck what we have done isn't the norm in college football. There are going to be times where we are just dominant. But there also are going to be times where things don't quite line up that way and we don't win every single game. Ask Ohio St how long it has been since they won a natty? How long did it take Uga to win their second? Patience is sometimes required when watching college football and unfortunately for us last night sucked and we have some growing and learning to do. We all know now that DJ is not on the level of Deshaun or Trevor but I thought his fight and desire to keep going in the fourth quarter was admirable. Does that mean I am an apologist? No but I also am not going to resort to name calling our Tiger players and coaches either. I know this much. Dabo got us here and has made good decisions in the past. If he needs to he will make a call but y'all just bashing on here is senseless.

As I was discussing with friends last night, what we saw last night was a culmination of all the nepotism and fealty surrounding Dabo. Should we trust Dabo to make great decisions?, yes. He’s taking us to Heights and I never imagined, but after 2018 it seemed that he just wanted to be surrounded by buddies, and doesn’t really care about winning at the highest level anymore. He’s rich, he’ll be in the college football Hall of Fame, he’ll always be regarded as Clemson’s best football coach. I’m just not sure what there is left for him to fight for…

OK instead of TDing me why don’t you give a differing opinion? Are you happy with our coordinator situation? Do you think our players are being well coached right now? Do you think the right player is our quarterback at the moment? I can make an argument that the last two seasons our wide receivers are not receiving the coaching that they deserve and have in the past, our quarterback should be on the bench but is still out there starting every game and struggling. And also our offensive game plans, while we hit some good plays, goes through major stretches with no scoring it is very predictable

WRONG! The best has already happened. Streeter is in way over his head and Dabo is the boss who promotes his family Vice Presidents!

Dabo knows what needs to be fixed and he will fix it. This team can still go 13-1 and have a great year. At the end of the season he will do what needs to be done. He's not going to say it but he knows he made a terrible hire at OC.
