I'm a year older than Dabo...

but I'll have to say, honestly, I feel like I've learned quite a bit in watching him from a distance.

I've never met him, but I do have friends who know him, and they say he is as genuine as a man can be.

What has really stood out to me are his consistency in being who he is, and his loyalty to those around him.

These are the very things that bring lots of criticism. But to his credit he stays the course.

Even very successful people can bend or sway in the face of adversity and/or criticism. But that's not Dabo.

Of all his "sayings," I think the one that has reverberated in my mind most often is, "Bloom where you're planted, and be great at what you do." In this age of the transfer portal, that is some of the best advice most kids should hear, but I think it can apply to every age and circumstance. Sometimes moving on is the right thing, but most of the time staying the course until there is a great new opportunity is the best thing.

There are many things that could be said about Dabo, and lots of opinions. I'm pretty sure he and I differ on some pretty significant issues. But that said, he is clearly a leader with great character and consistency and I think that's what these 18-23 or so year olds really need.

All successful people face criticism but very successful people take criticism and thrive. We are so blessed to have Dabo and he can coach too.
