If Texas was somehow able to lure away

Dec 16, 2013, 9:35 AM

Dabo and Morris as a package deal (very unlikely I know), how would you feel about Venables taking over? I think he might do a pretty good job. He is a Bill Snyder disciple, and Snyder is a helluva coach. Plus, he worked for Stoops, which had to serve as good training for being a HC.

I realize the package deal is highly unlikely to happen. Mainly just curious what folks think about Venables as a head coach.

he would probably be fine. His "we tried everything" comment about Shaw's running was a concern but that is just one aspect.

To call that implausible is an understatement. Actually, I could see them hiring Morris before Dabo and I'm a huge Dabo fan. I don't think either of those scenarios happens, but assuming that both left for whatever reason, yes, I could see Venables as Clemson's head coach. I think that our offense would get more conservative, but sure, I could see him running things and doing so very successfully.

I may be in the minority, but I wouldn't be comfortable

Truthfully...if Texas got Morris, then WHY would they need Dabo. Texas has no problem with recruiting. Its automatic. The coaching side brings Morris into play but what in the world would they need with Dabo ? He can't coach and they don't need a recruiter so its a no brainier. No one wants or needs Dabo for coaching and Clemson needs him for recruiting....not coaching. If I were a Clemson fan my biggest worry would be, who after Morris...not what Dabo will do or not do beyond his next hire.
