He won more games at Auburn and Coastal than he did at Clemson and he won nearly as many at South Alabama (only 8 less). I'm not sure he would be all that in favor of your suggestion.

And one of the reasons he was even at Auburn, to win all those games, was the firing here at Clemson with the 1990 tainted ACC Champions.

Why do you say “tainted champions?” Considering the widespread academic fraud committed by the Tar Holes for who knows how long, all other cheating “scandals” pale in comparison. Truth be known, that crap went back for a long, long, long time, but hey, that’s the “Carolina Way.” All other ACC basketball teams are downright esteemed compared to the cheating racket that existed in Orange County for decades, most likely.

Nope.
I try to remember the good things about Cliff Ellis' tenure at Clemson:
-Really good recruiting of big men.
-Some appearances, and one really good run, in the Big Dance.
-His love for beach music and singing was fun.
But I wrote sports for the Tiger while he was coach and can't forget that he personally threatened the sports editor at the time for writing a justly critical article late in one of his last few years coaching at Clemson.
A HC trying to intimidate a college kid who wrote a good article for the student newspaper is petty.
Let Coastal Carolina honor him. Hopefully he felt more secure there and didn't threaten college kids.

And no, I didn't say that "just because Coach K" did it, that made it right. I specifically suggested that you needed to grow up and take into account that writers are just that - writers, not doers. And that when multiple objects of writing are reacting the same way, then maybe the writers' assessment of the object of their writing isn't fully formed. Given that you were "student" writers, this hardly seems earth-shattering.
You people are collectively idiots, nothing more. There was a tremendous amount of angst at Clemson in those days: Danny Ford was little more than 3 years gone and the anger about that was still very high, Cliff Ellis was taking heat because of NCAA sanctions (sanctions that now see moronic at best), and even Max Lennon was on the way out.
For a Coach to go off on a kid putting something into the public about him hardly seems meaningful. Probably lucky Ellis didn't "Knight" him...

though I'd love to have a virtual A\K right about now for some of these idiots.
But I do think context is important for guys like Ellis. Ellis wasn't just attacked publicly at the time, he still is today. In fact, if Judge Keller ever speaks of the ACC Championship season, he dang well makes sure to remind that the NCAA vacated that title. And for what now? Truly... Brownell and his staff LIVE off of the sorts of things that Ellis might have done, and would likely be chastised by this very Board if they didn't use those tools.
Having had the 1990 season taken away is one reason why actually getting another W would be apropos. They vacated out a lot of effort and sacrifice, for the Coach and the Team. Getting just a small bit of something real back would go at least some way towards recognizing that Ellis' tenure ended under now-presumed inappropriate circumstances.
I do think Brownell needs to suggest something. As the supposed "leader" of the Clemson Basketball community, it's only right.

This is a rather bizarre idea that I’ve never heard implemented anywhere, so 99.9-100% of coaches are classless I suppose.

for someone who was most probably treated poorly by the institution and every one of its fans ever since,
and everyone wants to get all Legal or UFC on me.
"Precedent"? Players retire all the time in the NFL for a team that they aren't playing with anymore.
"Reason"? Because Ellis' career at Clemson was likely cut short by Clemson, and his name has been dirt ever since.
"Brad"? Because the numbskull has never accomplished what Ellis did, and because if there was ever anyone who received a plethora of 2nd chances, it would be Bradley Booright.
"Petitioning"? Really? I made one post. One suggestion. That's it.

If you really are a Christian, and that is not something I would ever challenge because only God knows your heart, then you know that what man and the world thinks of us means nothing. It only matters what Jesus thinks of us.
And as far as redemption goes, the redemption that really matters does not come from humans. It comes from Jesus himself who redeemed those of us who are believers, by His blood shed on the cross. Redemption is the act of being saved from sin, error, or evil and unless you have some kind of inside information that one party intentionally harmed another, then I'm not sure why you would be so insistent that your idea is a good one. Where is the problem between Cliff and Clemson? And even if that were the case, it would fall more along the lines of forgiveness rather than redemption since only the redemption of Christ is the one that really matters.
I'm sure in your own mind you mean well and some of this stuff you put out there makes great sense to you, but some of it sure does make the rest of us scratch our heads.

Suggesting that Brad take the time to understand Ellis' situation at Clemson is simple as per the post - Ellis lost a Championship doing things that Brownell does all day. Ultimately, it generally cost him the job. He might never have gone to Auburn otherwise.

There will be many tributes extended leading up to the event and he will be acknowledged by all the institutions with which he was connected. And Coastal will do a great job handling the retirement ceremonies for him.

Since you are feeling so gracious, maybe you can extend a little of that love to Brad as well or does that not fall within your Christian values? Didn't you post the other day that you hate him? That doesn't seem to quite jive with these values you speak of.

Save the 1989-90 “regular season champs” (a made up thing by the keepers of the Dean Smith faith) Ellis accomplished nothing “team wise” at Clemson that three out of the four coaches who followed him didn’t accomplish as well. Additionally, he was unable to ever build upon his sporadic successes, and he was only the coach for what, 10 seasons? It’s not like he was an icon of the school or head coach for 25+ years. He’s owed no more reverence by Clemson than would be owed to any of several other men’s basketball coaches for the school. While I have no personal dislike for the Cliff Dweller (in fact, I always enjoyed his color commentary as an analyst) but what you propose establishes an unusual precedent on behalf of a coach who certainly has had great longevity and a highly successful career, but did nothing at Clemson that was “head and shoulders” above anything he did at any one of several other schools where he was coach.

I’m guessing you are a SC butt hurt individual who wasn’t recruited by Coach Brownell or any other D1 program. Then you go D2 and well you weren’t a coachable player.
