I will soon be 74 years old. It is hard for some of you

"youngsters" to think that people like me were ever young like you are now. I just want to pass along just a little tid bit. When the game was on Big Thursday, the schools in Anderson used put the broadcasts of the game on the school intercom and let us listen. They also did the same thing for the World Series. TV did not exist for us in those days. Just to listen to Jimmy Coggins do those games on the radio and get a little time off from class was a thrill for a kid to never forget. It might even top the current days on TV.

That must have been quite humiliating for the little Gamecock kids.

"Whoo Hoooooooo MERCY!" calls as he was the voice of the Tigers before Jim Phillips. We are mightly privledged to have heard the great radio voices. They were able to form a picture in our mind's eye, something these guys have no ability to do!

Hey Leo, no youngster here.

I am already 65 but I too remember the World Series being broadcast over the school intercom. Especially the 1956 great Yankee win with Don Larsen pitching the perfect game. I grew up a Clemson Tiger fan in North Carolina so we didn't have Big Thursday over the intercom. I did attend the last one when I was in the fifth grade and the first game in Clemson. Counting on a win tomorrow. Go Tigers!

i am 44 and i can remember listening on the radio in the living room to the games that weren't televised......i lived and died with Fuller to Butler and Randy Scott, Bubba Brown or Rex Varn on the tackle....those memories will never leave me either and they laid the foundation of passion for the Tigers that burns just as deep today as it ever has.....i hope we lay waste to the Chickens tomorrow....56-0 sounds about right....they need to be reminded of who the real University in this state is....thanks for posting....it's an honor for us to read your words, sir.

Hi LEO, a youngster here at 71..but attended last BIG Thurs

Nov 23, 2012, 10:36 PM

and remember it well since I was on front row in front of the hedges at Billy Brice Stadium...and just before the game the Gamecock men cheerleaders stole the Tigers tail from his suit at midfield...and several of us RATs jumped the wall and headed out to get the tail back..but when one of those 200 lb guys started at me (125 lbs then) I ran like h*ll for my seat..and as I jumped over the hedge he grabbed the lip of my rear pocket..tearing it down enough to leave a hole to show my underwear.

We laughed with fear...but so happy too to watch the Tigers win that last time there (been going there every year since 1896 and still whipped their #### more than them whipping ours)..about 27-7 I think...using two QB's...Lowndes Shingler & Harvey White..and great RB's too.

Then, in 1960 the Coots came up to Clemson for very first time in 64 years..and we whipped them again!

GoTiGERs...beat the #####...BAD!
