So is Jimbo leaving FSU good or bad for Clemson?

Nov 30, 2017, 2:13 PM

I can see it potentially going either way. Thoughts?

Depends upon who replaces him.

Les Miles would be ironic.***

IMO bad. Jimbo's staff was very old***

Depends on who they hire to replace him. And if he goes to

Texas A&M then I'd say that's a slight negative since we play a home and away series over the next 2 years and he would be familiar with us

I liked Jimbo at FSU. He perennially underachieved once Jameis left, and nothing indicated that would change. So in a sense, it's bad.

Short term, I think it's probably good regardless. It'll leave the program a little worse as whichever new coach implements their systems.

Longer term, it all depends on who they get. If they get another Sabin or Dabo, we could be in for a hard time since they always do well recruiting. However there aren't many good coaches available right now, and I don't know that the better ones will want to go deal with the sky-high expectations that come with that job.

It's good

Nov 30, 2017, 2:29 PM

While they might get a guy that can coach a little better, no one will recruit as good as Jimbo has.

FSU will easily be the top job opening in college football***

Bad. What's our record vs. Jimbo? If they had a better coach we'd probably have even more problems with them.

Our record is 4-4, he won the first, we won the second, he won three in a row, we've won three in a row.

Gamecawks think it's good for them.

"We never beat Sumlin, so it could be an improvement for us. Who knows?"

They haven't beaten Jimbo, either. Remember the 2010 (possibly their best season, ever) Peach Bowl?

I think it is a good thing, here's why....

Nov 30, 2017, 2:50 PM

It seems like FSU is at a crossroads with its administration. Most of the reasons I have heard for Jimbo leaving revolve around trying to get the admin. to spend the money needed to maintain a successful program. They have consistently pushed off the construction of a football complex, they have refused to give assistants more pay (I suspect this is why Pruitt left a loaded defense and a defending national contender to go to a Mark Richt coached, middle SEC Least Georgia team). If Jimbo leaves, they will probably get a good coach but not a great one for those reasons. And unless they come off of the money, their program will suffer for a while. Just my two cents.

Depends on whether you're looking for W's over L's, or a stronger schedule (assuming guaranteed W's).

Wins n losses: This should be good for Clemson short term if they change coaches since a coaching change with a new system usually brings struggles for any team.

Strength of schedule: This would probably be bad for Clemson short term if you're looking at strength of schedule for the same reason.

I want to see W's regardless of the team we play or strength of schedule, so for me I see this as a good thing for Clemson.
