Of former Saban assts, Muschamp is taking some lumps. Being fired up and more talented does not substitute for a game plan.

I believe a lot of people who wanted Muschamp used the following faulty logic:
Muschamp cusses a lot and has a nasty temper there is a picture of him on the sidelines with blood on him, so he must be a bada$$, and therefore he would instill discipline and toughness in our players, so therefore he would be a good head coach for Clemson.

7-6 last year, 3-6 this year. Most of Tigernet's dream head coaches have fallen off the radar.

Our problem has been that we want another NC, and all
Nov 10, 2013, 7:48 AM

coaches since Danny Ford have been held to his standard of winning one.
Therefore, in short order, if they don't produce, they're toast! Hatfield was a disaster-in-waiting, a hire that baffled us older Tigers, because we felt that we should have been able to pick from the cream of the top.
Tommy West was a good man, albeit over his head. Then, we thought Tommy Bowden was the answer...simply because we thought his Daddy's success would translate through the son. That love affair was over in a few years.
Now, we've got Dabo Swinney, and as I've posted previously, I believe the verdict on his tenure is still out. Like it or not, there are too many Clemson people who believe our season centers on the Clemson/South Carolina game, and losing to them continuously will bring a firestorm...regardless of our season unless a NC is in order. Friends, I'm telling you that busloads of Clemson fans...and I mean grads, fans, big time donors, etc...don't give a hoot about the ACC, could care less about ACC titles and live for beating the Chickens. Coach has to find the way to end this "peating" business this year.
I like Dabo Swinney and support him strongly....I've said so repeatedly. However, regardless of accomplishments other than that NC, he won't survive at Clemson by losing to the Gamecocks continuously. I've simply been around our program for too many years....

I'm not crazy about Muschamp, but a boatload of injuries and 4 turnovers will make any coach look bad.

Paul Johnson was already the GT when Dabo was hired. Remember Dabo's first game as interim HC was against Johnson.

Gus Malzahn is more what people had in mind
Nov 10, 2013, 11:09 AM

How many coaches take a team from the bottom to a national title contender in 1 year? Malzahn is doing it. Sure there's always going to be a Muschamp scenerio but usually the safer bet is to go with experience...like Malzahn, Meyers, etc. Dabo in yr one was still experimenting with Napier. Thank goodness we are out of the learning curve.

Malzahn recruited a great portion of these players. Those left from last year's team were recruiting to play in his system along with those who came in this year.
He wasn't there last year so his players were being introduced to a new system.
AU made the right decision to hire him because most of the players on the team were his.

I know you are right about those wanting Dabo gone if he continues losing the rivalry game, but reality is that would mean firing a 10-2 coach or even 11-2 coach with a bowl win.
Do fans consider how that will make Clemson look nationally and do those fans consider what must be going through the mind of any potential HC hires?
