I know I harp on Dawes...

Feb 3, 2022, 11:35 AM

but I thought we played much better last night without him in the game. A two guard lineup of Honor and Hunter played much better I thought. Dawes had way too many unforced errors in the game (very sloppy) and also went 0-6 from three at home. He has become too much of a liability in my opinion. Brad even chewed him out after jacking up a fadeaway 3.

Right now we are a better team without him and he might need some time on the bench to rectify some of his messy play as of late. He's the most frustrating player to watch personally.

Yes really has digressed in his carrer after a very nice freshman season. A highly recruited guard but not too smart when it comes to managing the game. He might give the team a scoring lift coming off the bench like he did late last season, but that is all.

What happened to all these guys that looked like two years ago they were going to be very good players after the gold medal in Europe?

None of them evolved now except for Chase Hunter since he is now healthy. Even Nick Honor has his limits.

Again, don't think Brad is a very good developer of talent except for one play on the current team such as a Hall, Simms, Blossomgame, KJ.

The only exception was the sweet sixteen season.

Marginal improvements during a carrer, but not big improvements from season to season.

That is the recruiting problem more than anything else.

We still have to eliminate the long scoring droughts...

Thankfully, FSU answered last night night's three plus minute scoreless stretch with a three minute scoring drought of their own. Otherwise, the outcome may have been very different.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Chase refused to give the ball to Dawes at one point in the second half. Dawes was calling for ball and Chase waved him off and brought the ball up the court. This was after Dawes had turned it over a couple of times. Dawes makes me nversou bringing ball up court when he has someone pressing the ball.
Thought Hunter played well and also Bohannon. Bohannon gave us a much needed spark last night.

I really thought we had at least a 2 1/2 - headed monster at our 3 guard players entering this season with Dawes, Honor, and Hunter, but danged if we only get up to 1 1/2 regularly out of the 3. Dawes has been shockingly inconsistent - a real headscratcher, while Honor has kind of peaked IMO yet still goes hot and cold regularly. Hunter's slow rise up the ranks over the course of the season has been encouraging, but it seems to be offset by fall off from one or the other two. If we can get two of them operating at a high level at the same time we are a vastly better team and could make legitimate noise in the ACC tourney.

Completely agree. When our guard play was good last night, we played well as a team, but when it was bad, FSU started to take control. We definitely need more consistent performances from our backcourt.

that is the biggest problem with this team. If Dawes and Honor were more consistent this team would be in the top half of the ACC now at least. Probably like 16-4. Not counting Hunter because he has been pretty consistent the last month and a half.

What happened to those three guys on defense? During the World Games and last season those guys really guarded hard on the ball. That is why the defense has been a let down until the Pitt game.
