I have the pre-sads for the uncoming football game.

Because, with the prevalent mood amongst the Clemson fanbase, at least as evidenced here on Tigernet, the following is going to happen.

At the first incomplete short pass, or if the first series of downs results in no points, for whatever reason, BOOS will rain down from the crowd. BOOS for Clemson in Death Valley.

That is the kind of over entitled fanbase we have become. LONG receded into the mists of time are the days when we were so overjoyed at having "an undefeated home season" in 1974, even though the overall record was 7-4, that a special commemorative Pepsi bottle was issued.

We've been here before. Back when Danny was "only" winning 9 or 10 games a year on an 11 game schedule, there were myriad complaints about his "3 yards and a cloud of dust" offense. I was even among those complaining about that at times. But never, ever, did I sink to the depths of stupidity of calling for Danny Ford to be fired, because his philosophy did not match mine. I KNEW it was his program to run, his way, because that is what brought that success to begin with.

Now, because people believe there is a magic genie out there that can grant all wishes, called the Transfer Portal, our TWO TIME NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP WINNING, SIX TIME PLAYOFF PARTICIPATING, EIGHT TIME ACC WINNING current coach is not being given that same consideration. So, stand back and watch history repeat itself. We will have a neurotic Board of Trustees decide that we can do better with someone who is willing to use this Portal, or they will try to present Dabo with some ultimatum to use it, and he will walk away.

And if you don't think Clemson can immediately plummet back into the depths of the wilderness that we wandered in for decades after Danny Ford was ousted, if Dabo leaves, then you don't know history very well. A wise man once said, "Those who do not learn from the mistakes of History are doomed to repeat them." Clemson appears to be moving down that road sleepwalking right now. I hope we wake up soon.

destroyed in my parents house fire in 1977, and I later reacquired one off the ebay, which I have displayed right next to the 1981 National Championship Coke bottle. 1981 Orange Crush #1 cans, and 2016 and 2018 special Natty Coke cans and bottles are on a different display level.

74er here. I remember that 74 season so well. We were so excited that we bought all away game tickets for 1975. 0-56 versus Alabama in the first game I believe .
I don’t believe that what we are seeing on Tnet represents what we will see and hear at the game on Saturday. I’ve been a season ticket holder for 53 years and yes, I have heard a few boos. But not many, and only a small minority of the crowd.
I don’t know of anyone who’s ready to run Dabo off, and I doubt very seriously that anyone on the BOT would try to force him out. WAY too early for any of that, IMO.

100% correct for those of us following the tigers since the sixties. The only reason Clemson has been able to have the success we have had in the last dozen or more years is one man(Dabo). If Dabo leaves it will be of his own accord and that could happen if we get too high and mighty and critical. If Dabo leaves you will wander around in the desert for many years before Clemson catches traction again. It was not fun sitting thru those 3, 4, 5 win seasons. I went to Clemson many times knowing we were gonna lose the game. Dabo will get this program back on top if you stay behind him. The program itself is in good shape. It is not ready to collapse. We may be missing a few pieces and we may not win the ACC or get into the playoffs this season. However, if you desert Dabo this program will tank for a long time. There is a hair difference in winning and losing. If you are just a Johnny come lately this might be a good train stop for you to get off. 😁 Go Tigers

Tickets were a good bit cheaper in 1974

even after accounting for inflation. Nowadays there are only 16 athletic departments in the country that bring in more money than Clemson, and most of that money comes from the fans. People have higher expectations when they spend more money on a product.

Some background to avoid the quick retort given here often: I am not a Coot. 1981 CU grad, uncle played for Clemson back in the late 40's/early 50's, and between he and I we've been strong IPTAY supporters for roughly 80 years. Been going to games since the 60's and have lived through the ups and the downs. I enjoy following TNet, but don't post much.

All that said, this short post says it all. Clemson is among the top programs in the country, and we have committed the resources to be able to make that claim. Dabo's run has resulted in many years of excellence for our program, national recognition for our institution, but has also resulted in somewhat of a spoiled fan base; myself included. But, we're spending WAY too much money for the results we've seen lately, especially given our conference affiliation.

Our expectation each year, at a minimum, should be to win the ACC and end up in the Top 10. Period. If we were in another conference that would be different. If we can't accomplish ACC Championship and Top 10 ranking we shouldn't be paying top dollar for our coaches, facilities, etc., and should just focus on fielding a "competitive" ACC team, and move on (pending conference realignment of course).

Dabo has earned my respect and I truly hope he's our coach for years to come. But, only if he adapts to the new reality of college football and focuses on winning the only metric that counts when the clock strikes 0:00. That isn't happening right now.
