I get it...we are a football school. But can we not be...

Great in Football and at least "good" in basketball? Michigan, Louisville, Ohio State, Texas, UCLA, Kansas St, etc can do it. Why can't we? Of course those schools and their fan bases actually invest in basketball so I guess that is the first step. I don't think this new renovation to Littlejohn is going to be what it takes to put us in the top half of the ACC much less relevant on the national scene.

There is no reason Clemson can't be an NCAA tournament...

every other year or so. We won't make the tourney this year. The only reason there is even a remote chance is because the ACC after the top 5 takes a sharp turn downward. I think we are in the 60s of the RPI as the #7 team in the ACC.

I just don't understand how someone could justify the need

for a completely new arena. Essentially, it's going to be, but Littlejohn has never been that bad from a fan's perspective.
The players' areas are what needed much improvement. We are creating a top of the line practice facility, player's lounge, coaches offices, locker room, etc so that everything the team needs and wants is right there.
It's the same concept that Swinney is doing with our practice facility for football. Everything will be right there.

sucks terribly with a brand new arena.
Again, I'm glad we're putting a ton of money into basketball and essentially a new arena... but it doesn't guarantee success. It's certainly needed, but it's not a guarantee.

I have no idea if the new facilities will be what we need or not, but doing nothing was not an option.

I don't think the facilities are the core issues of bball...

i don't think the style/brand of brownell basketball appeals to many hs players.......
that being said I'm not calling for his head or anything right now, but there is something to be said for the way purnell was able to get ATHLETES (not neccessarily truly good bball players), despite facilities, to play his "fun style" of bball...........full court press and fast break offense.
again i'm not saying either coach is/was perfect, but IMO the brand/style is lacking to attract PLAYERS...........and FANS.
I kinda compare it to NAVY football..........not neccasarily going to get the best football players........so they have a "niche/gimmick" offense to level the playing field as much as possible............i think clemson needs that in bball.

not saying it can't work anywhere........or here, but i do think certain styles for one reason or another work better for different schools.
from a recruiting standpoint w/ AAU the style is NOT attractive to the typical high school basketball player.........right, wrong, or indifferent.
