Probably cannot polish this turd blossom!

Nov 8, 2012, 8:46 AM

Many of the lightning bolts were aimed at none other than Karl Rove, the former Bush administration political genius who oversaw the deployment of nearly $400 million in campaign spending through outside groups American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS toward the presidential race and toward numerous Senate and House races.

"The billionaire donors I hear are livid," one Republican operative told The Huffington Post. "There is some holy hell to pay. Karl Rove has a lot of explaining to do … I don't know how you tell your donors that we spent $390 million and got nothing."

Rove even suffered the indignity of being insulted on Twitter by the blustery Donald Trump, who had attended Romney's election night party here on Tuesday night, but left early after it was clear that Obama had won a second term.

"Congrats to @KarlRove on blowing $400 million this cycle. Every race @CrossroadsGPS ran ads in, the Republicans lost. What a waste of money," Trump tweeted

I look at it this way....

Nov 8, 2012, 9:01 AM

It's $400 million of rich people's money wasted. I can live with that a lot more than the billions of tax payer's money we flushed down the toilet on companies like Solyndra.

Nov 8, 2012, 10:25 AM

The gov invested in 64 technology companies including Solyndra, two of which have gone out of business.

I realize this isn't much of a talking point, but your criticism doesn't really hold up in the real world. Say that we shouldn't invest in our own technology, that a legitimate criticism, but regurgitating Fox News/Solyndra is nothing more than a talking point for the ill-informed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Two....seven.....whatever

Nov 8, 2012, 10:52 AM

And heck....we lost over $400m alone on Solyndra.

Please pardon the fact that I'm so ill-informed. I will work on that.

Here's the GOP's problem

Nov 8, 2012, 9:50 AM

ISSUES do not sell with voters. They don't know the issues, they don't care about the issues. A few do but the majority don't.

What they do respond to is image and rhetoric. It's really sad but I fear it's true. The GOP has been going around attacking the dems on issues over and over and it has no effect. The libs attack the IMAGE of the GOP (actually create one) and they have success. The GOP are a bunch of rich, white, sexist, racists who want to outlaw abortion, subjugate women, kill grandma, and starve the children and destroy the environment. The dems then create their own image (they can do this in the MSM) as compassionate, caring, champions of the poor and oppressed.

And this #### sells with the American people. It sells with the French people. It sells with the Greeks, it sells with Spaniards. It sells with Russians and Chinese peasants. Meanwhile, all this imagery totally clouds the problems that the liberal policies create. Mainly debt, debt, and more debt. It clouds the fact that liberal policies hurt the poor, subjugate the poor, and kill economies.

There is really not much we can do at this point but wait until things get worse, and hope the people see the light.

Um, the GOP issues that dominated the campaign were

Nov 8, 2012, 10:05 AM

Rape
Abortion
Employers deciding if their female employees should have birth control included in their health insurance.
More tax cuts on top of the budget busting W(t#) tax cuts.
More defense spending even though it is not needed and not requested.
Fear.
Loathing.
Obstruction.

The GOP brand has been roundly discredited. No Republican president in the last century or so has run a surplus, yet the Dems have.

Um, no, but nice try. The Dems tried to make these issues come out, but they didn't. It's all fear tactics and lying by the Dems.

Look, the House is controlled by GOP, if they wanted to make these issues, especially abortion a platform, they easily could. But they are not near as concerned about these issues as Dems want them to be.

Re: Here's the GOP's problem

Nov 8, 2012, 10:29 AM [ in reply to Here's the GOP's problem ]

Sounds like you're saying Democratic consultants are smarter than Republican consultants? Either that or Republican candidates are dumb to fall for the sales pitches of hucksters like Rove. His sales pitch works on the candidates, but not the people they want to reach. Who's the sucker in that transaction?

In a period in our history where things can't be more grave and serious liberals still dream of tolerance in some kind of a utopian society. You get there with hard work and sweat, not government freebies. Maybe when enough of them are forced into reality their minds will change.
