HUGE tornado on the ground south of OKC

May 6, 2015, 6:50 PM

Storm chasers reporting it's 1.5 miles wide, south of Oklahoma City near Norman.

Hoping our Clemson family and everyone in Oklahoma stays safe!

That'd be an F5+...maybe even the legendary "F6" that some people are claiming is going to arrive someday.

Actually, some guy called Bruce Sterling wrote a story about that back in 1994 called Heavy Weather...in which Oklahoma City, coincidentally enough, gets wiped off the map by an F6.

Scary stuff. An F6 would scour the earth literally right down to the bedrock.

There has been one recorded at 2.5 or so miles wide.

Scary stuff.

I have friends that are storm chasers, I prefered to stay behind a desk when I did forecasting lol I've never been that brave and never will.

recorded on earth... I believe (or something similar)...

It passed within half a mile of my grandmother-in-laws (and it was a mile wide)

several tornados have touched down today. One may very well have been an F1.

There are also tornados in Kansas and Nebraska right now. (Or within the last few minutes)

I do.

I was watching some of the storms form on radar.

Clemson people are suppose to be to smart to be living in Russian Roulette alley where monster killer storms are aimed at your A$$ 3-4 months a year. To mush book sense, and clearly very short of common sense as far as I'm concern!!! Just get the H&LL out of a place where a chance of death blows all around you all summer long. IMO, thats trusting your luck way to much, bc it only takes one huff and puff to blow your A$$ away, literally. And I'll admit it without any shame, mother nature pissed off scares the absolute chit out of me!!!

I don't mean to be a jerk, but does Oklahoma have any redeeming qualities? Between the hot summers, harsh winters, and high incidence of tornadoes, it seems like an awful place to live.

There are also no beaches or mountains nearby to vacation to.
