No defense? OR they didn't take enough shots?***

The new defensive rules hurt us a ton

Dec 1, 2015, 12:29 AM

you can no longer guard physically, and that's what we did best. We're struggling defensively as a result. Now, it's that way now. Let's see how it's called when conference play begins

The rules aren't new they are just calling the game based

on the rules already in place. The game was never meant to be played the way Clemson, UVA, and other physical teams were playing the game. The game had become boring and it was hurting rating and the development of players. The NBA started calling the game correctly 4 years ago and it has gotten better every year and last years NBA playoffs were some of the best in history. The college game will be much better, because of the change and it may take a few years for the coaches to adjust and start teaching shooting again instead of spending all of their time on defense.

They are new in that it hasn't been called this way for 25 years

We're struggling to change and so are many others. Refs are struggling with it also as we saw two different halves last night. Big thing is to be consistent now. Years past we've had these points of emphasis vanish once January rolls around. I agree this is better basketball, but it is a huge adjustment for everyone. By the rules a foul could have been called against the guy guarding Holmes last night every time he rushed the ball up the court. The guy impeded him every time. Was called once. It's an adjustment for every one.

Our lack of height and athleticism on the perimeter is the

main culprit. Devoe is just slow. Holmes doesn't seem as athletic as Hall, but he shoots more. We miss Ajukwa's length and experience, who obviously would have played a lot this year. Throw in the fact that our rim protector sits on the bench for long stretches in foul trouble and you have a recipe for a poor defensive team.

All team have to adjust to the changes, but our lack of athleticism causes it to hit us a bit harder.

We didn't defend well but it's hard to when you have no idea what is a foul and what's not.

The game is now being called again the way it was

Dec 1, 2015, 2:31 AM

meant to be called. The college game followed the NBA in the 1990 to a more physical game and it hurt the overall game, the NBA went back to calling the game correctly 4 years ago and it's a much better game. With the game being called correctly it will be a more free flowing game that will favor the more talented teams.

You constantly heard basketball people saying the college game had become unwatchable with the low scores and the physical defense. Calling the game correctly will fix those problems and allow for a free flowing high scoring game. The game was never meant to be played with all the hand checking, pushing, and hard fouls. I for one am glad to see the game return to this form of play, even though it will hurt Clemson, because we do not have great basketball players on this team.

Percent is not important

Dec 1, 2015, 7:35 AM

It's the number you make that counts! 20 of 30 is great shooting but 21 of 60 wins every time. I like this basketball team. When Grantham becomes a consistent shooter the Tigers will be bad news. Good rebounders

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

give up too many dunks and lay-ups

Dec 1, 2015, 8:40 AM

the gophers got way too many easy buckets

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

normally that's a recipe for victory. Refs hurt a lot, but

Dec 1, 2015, 9:37 AM

they shot almost 70% from the field in the first half, so only about 40 some odd% in the second. They came out a little cold, but didn't play quite as well. They did battle though. Like the heart.

Turnovers...

Dec 1, 2015, 10:08 AM

We also had 11 turnovers...so don't jump the gun and blame the refs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jacking 3's on every other possession hurts when there

Dec 1, 2015, 10:20 AM

is no rebounding. There was no inside game. Defensively we let them run to the basket unimpeded most of the game.
