How good was Duke last year anyway

I’ve heard a lot of talk about how Duke is a legit threat after their stellar 2022 season so I decided to look at their wins and see just how impressive the season was. Here are their wins

Temple
Northwestern
NC A&T
Virginia
Miami
Boston College
Virginia Tech
Wake Forest
UCF (bowl game)

Not exactly murderers row. Their most impressive win is against Wake Forest at the end of the year when they were out of contention for ACC championship.

The losses make the Blue Devils look even less frightening.

Kansas
Georgia Tech
UNC
Pittsburgh

Duke played 4 teams with a pulse last year. Lost to 3 (Kansas, UNC, Pittsburgh) and only beat one (Wake Forest). On top of that the lost to an interim coach at the awful Georgia Tech.

Duke had a good year for their standards, but if Clemson had their schedule and only won 9 games we’d be ready to run Dabo out of town. There’s no need to worry about a potential upset and any media member trying to push that narrative is obviously selling something.

By Duke standards, 2022 was a really good year for them...

That said, the 2023 schedule will be more difficult, starting with Clemson.

Clemson wins by at least three TDs.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I will be happy with a 21 point win on the road to start the season with a new offense and OC. Duke was better than most people realize last year. Duke’s quarterback can and will hurt you running the ball if you don’t account for him. I think we will account for him. The Duke defense was blah last year so I expect 30+ points but with all the newness on offense I am not counting on it.

First game of the year, away from home, new offense and new starting QB. I'm not taking anything for granted and pretty sure Dabo won't let our team do that either.

No one seriously thinks we lose to Duke unless it's first game and new system jitters.

If we don't blow Duke out or at least show flashes of doing it then it may indicate where we are for the season.
