Maybe I've been hiding under a rock

Someone please tell me what all the hype is about with Winston of FSU. I watched for only a little while in the second quarter.
"Send the defense back to the nursing home."
They looked undersized, and didn't challenge the receivers at all. Their pass rush was non-existent, as was their ability to stop the run.
What's going? Is it just too many talk shows and talking heads trying to make a buck or what?

Considering that....

it was his first start and on the road, I thought he played pretty well. However, I also think the enthusiasm needs to be tempered somewhat based on the opponent. Any decent QB is going to have a field day against Pitt. They're not a very good team.

Winston looked accurate BUT he can't run like tajh. He is too scrawny IMO and against Pitt, the recievers were wide open most times and u r right, he had very little pressure. Winston will be good but I think playing in Death Valley against real pressure will be more telling. He didnt get tested yet.

It is impressive anytime you can throw and catch like that even without any pressure but Pitt's D is not very good and the receivers were wide open the entire time. FSU looked a little soft. The defense began the game stopping the run well but Pitt had several drives were they just smashed D. FSU was not able to get pressure without blitzing a corner or LB against an average (at best) Offense. That will bite them at some point this year. They have great athletes but look a little soft to me.

He may look a little small on a football field

but he is a good size QB. I went down to FSU during baseball season for our series and he looks like a grown man in a baseball uniform.

I didn't think he had good quickness or speed at all. Looked a little slow to me. Has a fantastic arm but he will not be tested by pressure and good coverage until they play Clemson. We will see how good he is then.

I am anxious to see how he plays against Maryland. He will have several games under his belt by then and they will test him better than anyone else has. Md. game is beginning to scare me.We play them right after the FSU matchup.

I thought the bigger concern was FSUs Defense
They had no pass rusher
The proven way to beat Clemson is to get Tajh rattled and without any pass rushers I don't see how they can do that

on the night. I'm hoping Pitt just has a very crappy defense.

Even against a crappy opponent, 25-27 for 350 yards and 4 TDs in your first ever start is pretty impressive.
Pitt had a pretty stout defense last year and returned 9 players, but we really have no way of knowing how bad they suck, yet.
Good thing FSU has to come to the Valley this year!

his first game at QB at this level, regardless of who they were playing. The hype, in this case, may be justified.
Unfortunately, many are already sick of hearing about him. It's not his fault, it's the networks, as they are always looking for somebody to hype until viewers are having convulsions or killing people simply because they can't take it any more.

If you throw 25-27 on the road in your first start, thats a good game. He was very accurate even if his receivers were open, thats still impressive.

I've seen plenty of QBs miss wide open throws. He didn't

do at all, not once. Even his 2 incompletions were thrown very well, and the first one probably should've been reviewed and ruled a catch.
You can't totally discredit what he did just because the Pitt defense isn't good.

His coach is Jimbo Fisher - so Winston has to be great - even greater than CJ Manuel. So FSU is also the greatest team on earth again. I'm pretty sure how that works.
That said - do NOT under estimate Winston.
