Why has Xavier Thomas been a bust? He's gotta be pushing 35, by now...

Ok, he's had time to get over covid19, he's healed from the foot injury, he was like the #4 Recruit in the Nation , Senior year, out of high school. WHERE IS HE DURING THE GAMES??? He has the clear Experience and Age and Maturity thing going, so why hasn't this 5 Star Recruit produced anything much other than 1 popular sack, 5 years ago?! He Should be Manhandling those "boys" out there, but you hardly ever hear name called out during the games, at all. What gives, X Man ?

You people really need to read what holding is. The rulebook is online. Otherwise, you're just gonna find yourself wrong about every play for the rest of your life.

Clemson hasn’t been drawing holding calls for years. I think it must be some kind of payback for the Power Rangers terrorizing all those the conference opponents.

Yes because his struggles with long covid and injuries aren’t well documented. He was the nation’s highest graded freshman by pro football focus in 2018 so clearly our coaches screwed him up. He had two sacks and a forced fumble in 3 games last year before getting injured yet again. He’s definitely a part of some “growing list” instead of one of the hardest working guys we’ve had who has refused to give up. You probably think we should have pulled his scholarship to make room for someone less injury prone.

Worst take of the day and that’s saying something. His perseverance should be admired. He was in full beast mode before going down again last year. This is his last shot. Not exactly shocking that he might be a little tentative. I looking forward to seeing him wide open against FSU.

He actually does not have that much experience because of all the health challenges. That time missed really hampered what should have been a very productive career.
I’m still hopeful he has a solid finish and gets a chance at the next level.

He has 15.5 career sacks. That would be good for 7th all time in uofsc history.

his size at DE is a problem. Should've been a linebacker

I know he's put on some muscle and he's quick but his frame makes it too easy for offensive tackles. They seem to be able to keep him off balance pretty regularly. Vic Beasley was small for DE as well but he was elite at quickness and moves. XT will make some plays this year but i'm not sure what his longevity is at the next level. He could probably be a 3-4 Linebacker.

I assume you mean his statistical productivity. Here's why

Obviously injuries and illness have been a huge negative factor for XT, but he's not exactly dynamic when he's on the field.
IMO, the answer is clear: He doesn't have "burst". He doesn't explode off the line and put O-lineman at a disadvantage. This makes him relatively easy to block on the perimeter.
An unfair comparison is Micah Parsons at Penn State. Parsons wasn't the biggest guy out there, but his explosive speed off the snap and his ferocious hand fighting made him unblockable. He carried that on into the NFL.
As a physical specimen, XT definitely looks the part but he flatlined after his freshman season. Injuries are only a part of the reason he hasn't progressed at all.
I also don't think he's that strong.
XT is just one of many 5-stars don't work.
