For those old enough to remember SMU

and I'm BARELY old enough, I vaguely remember thinking of them as a good program and I remember the probation, but I don't really remember watching them in the glory days.

Does anyone else wish they were still a power? I always thought they had a cool uniform and naturally made another good team from Texas being in Dallas.

very solid and Dickerson was just brutally fast and powerful.

Eric Dickerson could have been the best ever, and for awhile

was the best of his era. One of the more disappointing finishes in sports history to what was an amazing career. I barely remember the SMU heyday myself, but they stuck with me enough to make their bowl game one of the few non Clemson bowl games I checked out this year.

Best combination of speed and power I've ever seen. I think he would have broken all the records if he and the Rams would have found a way to agree on what he was worth. They were committed to running him all game long and he was a threat to out run you or run you over every play.

Completely agree, Bob.

The guy basically had about a seven to eight year career and put up those numbers he did. He had close to 5 seasons that were near wastes between injury, suspension, and the bitter end of his career. Those seven or eight seasons when he just did his thing, and had his head for the most part on straight, he was a great player to watch. I'm glad I was around to see him play. To me, a completely overlooked player when the conversation of best backs ever comes up.

He was fun to watch

Most people forget how strong he was.

I was lucky enough to be a kid in LA when he was tearing it up for the Rams. I got to watch him almost every Sunday on TV and was fortunate enough to go to a few games.

Too bad they couldn't get solid QB play during his tenure. It's amazing to think they rode him all the way to the NFC Championship against the '85 Bears with Dieter Brock as QB.

I'm 53, and I don't ever remember SMU being a power, or

even a factor on the national scene, except that brief run with Dickerson and crew.
