For Dabo to make changes we will have to admit he was wrong

Nov 6, 2022, 9:37 AM

We all know that’s not happening. He will try to fix all of our coaches. They all be fine coaches one day and I hope so but Clemson is to big of stage for on the job training.

Streeter has been pretty good, with the obvious exception being blitz management.

All year, we have only been able to recognize and pick-up the blitz when there is only one blitzer. We are clueless when 2 blitzers come through the same gap.

After re-watching the entire game on You-Tube late last night, it is clear that we recognize the single blitzer well, and the RBs pick up the blitzer. However, only Mafah is effective in carrying our the block. Our other guy (the guy that we all love but who will remain nameless in this post) is a terrible blocker for blitz pick-up. Not only with LBs, but also with DBs ... his blocking on blitz pick-up is about as effective as a Kleenex.

Streeter needs to make adjustments in obvious pass situations such as (1-a) having 2 backs in the backfield, with one back scooting out of a dump-off pass in the flat and with Mafah being assigned to pick up the blitz or (1-b) draw play to our favorite RB -or- (2) a blocking scheme that accommodates a planned roll-out (this is an occasional tactic; won't work if done too much).

If Streeter can make the adjustments before Louisville game, then we'll know that he's got the agility and coaching acumen to be worthy as our O-Coodinator.

Goodwin needs to coach the LBs better and to learn how to make adjustments at half-time. I'll use a military analogy with the admission that I was never in the military ... so here goes nothing:

Goodwin is like the staff general who coordinates logistics, troop movements, the array of weaponry needed for a certain battle plan. The staff generals are brainy guys, but operate in a static, safe environment.

Goodwin needs to develop into a battlefield general. Shizz is hitting the fan, and rapid adjustments to the original battle plan must be made to have a successful outcome.

Goodwin hasn't made that transition yet. He's still in the mode of (retired) General John M. (Jack) Keane, as in the mode of General Norman Schwarzkopf (RIP) . That isn't to say that he can't or won't make that adjustment, but he needs to get the Schwarzkopf mode on gameday and be like the Keane mode when not conducting practice and when not managing games.

He hasn't been proven wrong.

His coordinators are 8-1. The biggest issue facing Clemson right now is the need of a mentally strong QB who can play consistently. That's it. The defense isn't as stout, but when you're not scoring, not eating any time, give up 21 points and you're behind and being thrown out against a physical team with one thing in mind - it's gonna look like last night.

The primary issue at Clemson has been highlighted for all to see. The QB isn't mentally strong enough to win at a Championship level.
