He can't go to the games for the next 3 games. He can coach during the week. He can be with the coaches preparing the game plan, meet with players, go to practice, etc. Apparently, he can even go to the cities and be with the team right up until the time they get on the bus to go from the hotel to the game.
Why not cheat?
Heck, he'll probably be watching the game and be connected to the headsets of the coaches during the game.
Wait, you say he can't do that. That is prohibited? So what? What are they gonna do to him? Tell him he can't have sprinkles on his ice cream at the pre-game meal?

Sending people to opponents games incognito and recording their sideline the whole time so you can sync it up with the game film and rewind it and rewind it to catch all the signal nuances to get them down to a science is not what everyone is doing. Not by a long shot! If they are, then they are guilty and should be penalized too.
All that said, this penalty is BS. As BRETFSU says, heck why not cheat if this is all you get as consequences? Ridiculous!

Rules ,or legality ,is not a question when it's against the rules. No, not as important as tampering or pay HS school players in the NIL Era.
Seems they would put as much EFFORT in policing that as they do signal stealing.

In how they did it that broke the rules. If you can figure out another teams signals while you are playing them or from watching TV recorded games or the official game tapes that are legally provided, then there is nothing wrong with that. But sending in folks to scout the opponent’s signs and worse yet, recording them for use back at your place is way over the line.

Maybe he got a letter and a suspension because what he did warrants a letter and a suspension. It cost another guy his job, and probably his career in football. What else would you like to see happen here?
