Guess the WR are going to be this years DJ 2.0

Sep 6, 2022, 10:32 PM

Time and time again we hear how bad they are and how bad they are coached. Watch the game they do get open but can’t stay open forever. Previous QBs had such good chemistry with the receivers that they had the ball going to them as they were turning or knew their received good enough to throw them open. The talent is still there unless you truly believe we are missing on almost every WR recruit the past couple of years, the chemistry however is not there it’s just not meshing.

Until we can consistently run the ball, we will struggle with pass. If we could run block the pressure on our QB's would not be so great and we could throw better. We have played just 1 game, give it a chance.

Very true

Not being able to run the ball is killing our offense. DJ is a big part of our problems but not 100% of them.

That said, I do not want to see ANY more read-option plays with DJ because he's still slow as molasses despite losing 30 pounds. Put Cade in the game and read-option plays could actually create some space for our RBs or Cade will be off to the races.

The GT Defense was stacked on the line eight-deep ...

ready to pound the RB whichever direction he ran in the slow-motion Offense. No respect for a QB run off-tackle or around the end. No play action. Passes are telegraphed, almost formally announced, and develop in slow-motion. Having a quick-twitch track champion at QB with an outstanding ability to read defenses (as Dabo put it) would change a lot of opposing Defense tendencies.

I think we are meat grinding everyone on the line hin 3-4 weeks. it’s a chicken and egg thing. If we are moving it on the ground then DJ will flourish is what I’m hearing. If not, we have to pass to set up the run. Can DJ do that? That is the question.

I can think of 3x last night when a simple

Catch which was on target would have given vitality to our passing game. That's all. Just catch it.

No offense please, but this post is really off target

No pun attended.

DJ's throw accuracy was not the problem. You can point to a million other problems with our offense but it's simply lazy to blame it all on DJ.

His timing is the problem. Not wanting to get ahead of myself but DJ does not look any quicker in his decision making this year. His problem isn’t his body, it’s his mind to body reflexes. His ability to react to the situations. Some of those sacks are dreadful to watch as he runs right into the rush.
Tom Brady got hit less last year than DJ did last night. That’s not an offensive line thing.

DJ needs to anticipate faster and he will excel. His talent is there but the 6 inches between the ears needs to matchup with the body.

I mean he can be part of the problem

Sep 7, 2022, 12:35 AM

not denying that but the issue isn't nearly all on him.

I think the issues start with him. I would bet if the locker room took a poll DJ would not be the guy. Players react that way it a mental thing. Then drops happen bc they don’t believe in him. If you played sport you know there’s also that one kid that shouldn’t better there but was and he killed the team’s confidence. DJ is that kid. The team get energy from Cade that’s the difference in the great ones. DJ just isn’t an alpha and there’s nothing wrong with that

I want to start by saying you can tell DJ definitely worked hard this summer. His body is improved, his mechanics looked better, and with that so did his accuracy. I think there’s somewhat of an OL and WR issue, but I don’t think it’s as bad as some are making it out to be.

DJ’s struggle to anticipate exacerbates those issues. He waits until he sees a WR is open before throwing. That might work in HS when you have a cannon for an arm, but it’s not going to work in college.

While he’s waiting on WRs to get open, he’s consistently fading back and to right out of the pocket where we have a freshman OT struggling with speed to the outside.

Our WRs aren’t what they were, but they’re still good enough. EJ Williams looked like a future pro his first year with Trevor at the QB spot. Don’t forget we were saying the same thing about the WR room when Kelly was the QB.

DJ is year three and still trying to process the speed of the game. I think you need to make the switch and let Cade go through that now. Cade came in and there was an instant energy change. There was confidence and excitement on that side of the ball we haven’t seen in a whole season. When DJs at the helm the whole offense feels like they’re puckering.
