Problem with that logic is why would one settle to be soft just because everyone around you might be that way? If you have a problem with being a so called soft team start scheduling out of conf games that don't include Ball St, Furman, SC State, so on and so forth. Being a spearhead team for the ACC you should also be a team that represents the culture. If that means you change the culture then do that. Don't forget, all of the SEC aren't "bullies". Kentucky? Vandy? Tenn? Mizzu? Ole Miss? Miss St? Aub? Ark?
Just because we were to join another conf would not solidify us as a powerhouse team. The ACC's persona is determined by the teams that are in it. Blame the teams. H311, Blame us!

There is nothing wrong with the ACC. Miami, VPI, Fla.ST., Pitt, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Notre Dame soon to be added. What is wrong with that? Get rid of a few Tar Heel schools and we would be extra good. I see the Ball States being left off of future schedules for the Tigers. The Tigers CAN always be good and I think that they will.

Agreed. The SEC being "tougher" or " badder" or whatever is nothing new. In general, it has always been that way. The combination of teams change , but for the most part the SEC had always come out on top vs the ACC. Hey, I remember sitting in DV during the mid seventies as a kid when the hill was practically empty as we battled to be .500 in the ACC. Charlie Pell came and changed the culture and a few other things to get us started.
Look at the record books. Always been that way except for an individual team here or there that has stepped up ie Danny Fords teams or FSU in the 90's. Maryland and UNC a couple times in the 80's.
Also, the ACC had a run in the 80's and early 90's when CU, UVA, UNC, Maryland, and GT were putting good teams on the field about every year. CU and GT had their National Championships, etc. FSU came in and made the league even stronger for a few years there. But, these years really are the exception for the ACC, not the norm.
I think academics play a part in it with the ACC expecting more from their athletes. Thats just a hunch though.
I also think it is easier to get to play for a National title in the ACC than SEC, if you are a good team. If CU or FSU goes undefeated this year they would be playing for it and the weak ACC talk would slow down. Because in reality, a conference is judged by most fans, and most are casual fans, by the top half or so teams not the bottom half.
