Good morning, how was everbody's weekend?

Feb 27, 2017, 6:31 AM

Friday-baseball game

Saturday-8 year old had all star basketball practice then off to my parents to help do some stuff

Sunday-church then watched cars turn left for hours while sitting on couch

9.25 with deductions for shooty hoops suckage but still got that natty doe

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Intense. Currently shítting it out as I type

Feb 27, 2017, 6:40 AM

OMGZ OSCAR WEEKEND

Feb 27, 2017, 7:33 AM

I steamed my tux, rolled out and vacuumed the red carpet, prepared lots of food and had people over to watch and live tweeted the whole experience.

Then I immediately logged into t net to see what others thought. Was very happy to see I am not the only who watches that crap

Feb 27, 2017, 7:37 AM

Fri - made some kickass steaks at home - NY Strip for all you ribeye lovin' mf'ers. Seared on hot skillet and finished in the oven, and they were glorious.

Sat - Enjoyed the fantastic weather, did some shopping with the fam. Among other things, dropped $125 on a pair of running shoes. Protip - every once in a while it pays to go to a real shoe store and have your foot measured and fitted. I've been wearing 9-1/2 for the better part of my life, and found out Saturday that I am now a 10-1/2 on the right, 10 on the left. Most comfortable pair of shoes I've had in years and worth every penny.

Sun - church, ran some errands, dinner out with the wife

Somewhere in there was some redhead things. Overall, 9/10

YOU CAN STILL MAINTAIN THE PHYSICAL ABILITY TO RUN WITH ANY KIND OF SHOE, OR EVEN NO SHOES AT ALL.

They are Brooks, but I couldn't even begin to tell you any

Feb 27, 2017, 8:39 AM [ in reply to What shoes? Also, stupid running shoes have gotten crazy ]

more than that (e.g. model) since I am not currently a runner and bought them strictly for comfort. I will have to check when I get home.

I think those are some of the only Brooks that retail for less than $140, unless you went with PureProject, which you probably didn't because that would be dumb.

Feb 27, 2017, 7:54 AM

Friday - Off work early, got home and pulled an old skool H8n by taking a nap. I texted him to let him know but he never replied b/c he was sleeping since he works 3rd shift now.

Saturday - Went to a Vex robotics competition for an hr our so then over to 2nd and Charles in G' Vegas to pick up NCAA 2003 for the ps2. Willie Simmions is well on his way to winning the Heisman. For some reason C Stucky is playing CB and J Miller is the slot receiver. We are undefeated so Im not arguing

Around lunch time I put some bacon wrapped boston butt in the crock pot covered with salt, garlic powder and liquid smoke. Not to be confused with Liquid Snake from Metal Gear Solid. After cooking for 6 hrs I pulled the pork apart and broiled it for 5 mins. Word is born yo.

Sunday - Lazy morning, had French toast for breakfast w/bacon, cleaned up and headed to Asheville. Did some hippy rich people shiit by taking a nap in the salt cave. Stopped by the French Quarter for some chocolate and then walked over to see the Mardi Gras parade. Headed home to cook shrimp n grits with bacon and watched some tv.

Monday - Today Im working 8-5 then home to cook some sirloin burgers in the cast iron skillet

Hold muh d!ck

Re: Good morning, how was everbody's weekend?

Feb 27, 2017, 8:31 AM

Friday: Daughter's basketball game then dinner with Friends at The Roasting Company. Food was 6/10 and Hoppyum was 10/10 so overall 7/10 because two of the kids didn't eat and we stopped at McDonald's on the way home.

Saturday: Up early, wife and kids to gym, Greenr hits a 12 miler, just under 8:00/mile pace, feeling good, got stupid hot due to crazy weather. Running is getting better, slowly creeping back to former fitness levels. Lunch with familia at Nishie G's (actually brunch, I had an omelet with sausage and bacon, hot sauce, 8/10) and coffee. Run errands, nap time, play in back yard, plant 7 trees, drink some beers, clean out garage, dinner togo from Empire Pizza II. I realized, that place is crazy expensive for takeout pizza, at least in my mind it is.

Sunday: Sunday school, church, McAlister's, Publix for groceries, naps, then hang around house doing nerthing. Meal prep lunches for the week, chicken burrito bowls, and makeshift dinner, leftover pizza and cereal.

Monday: #### this place.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Have not done the Roasting Company yet.

Feb 27, 2017, 9:22 AM

be REALLY REALLY salty and take over the dish. If they use a small amount of it, good to go. The bar is good. I've been getting the Southern Pulled Pork Wrap which is basically rice, cheese, pulled pork, sauce, and cole slaw which I request be omitted as I am not a disgusting person. Tico Black Beans side has some kick...not too bad. Wife likes salad there, keeps requesting to go there to get that.

Just found out this morning that Wings University is gone

Feb 27, 2017, 9:30 AM

and has been replaced with a RH location of Town Tavern. Been to the one of Fort Mill a couple of times and it's decent at best. We're hosting Supper Club in a couple of weeks and Roasting Company, Burgers & Barley, and now maybe Town Tavern are on the list as possible locations. Hearing good things about Burgers & Barley, but not sure if they'll work with us on a reservation or not. I hear they're still standing in line to get in there after being open a couple of months.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Is Burgers and Barley the old Money? If so, I have heard

Feb 27, 2017, 9:58 AM

great things about them. Had no idea about Wings University, but it was meh IIRC. Roasting Company is nothing special, but it is a little different and that is a little appealing. Also, the owner (Or manager, I think) always wears a Clemson hat so I know he is a good guy.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, that's it.

Feb 27, 2017, 10:08 AM

The only time I ever had anything from Wings U was if I went to a party at someone's house and they got wings from there. Was not impressed with what I had, otherwise never set foot in there.

Side note, got a friend trying to open a brewery in downtown

Feb 27, 2017, 10:09 AM

Rock Hill. They are SERIOUS about it, but keep getting the runaround from regulatory folks and crappy places.

Not really a friend, a friend of a friend.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Word on the street is that there are at least four breweries

Feb 27, 2017, 10:16 AM

and a distillery trying to get ducks in a row to open in RH. I wonder if your friend of a friend are the same people that someone here in the office was telling me about that is getting the run around as far as location goes. The city wants them to open down near Roasting Company but the space doesn't work.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Possibly....They looked at the Ecclesia bldg downtown

Feb 27, 2017, 10:20 AM

and the renovations would be tremendous just to get the floor ready for brewing equipment. That space adjacent to the Roasting Company HAS to have some kind of appeal. It is technically between Winthrop and Downtown, just not the most direct route. We deserve something better than LRB and every chain restaurant in America.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I finally found some reason to go to LRB.

Feb 27, 2017, 10:29 AM

The Loudermilks are playing at LRB on Saturday, April 1. Have not seen them play since the Edwards Brothers were in Lou Ford (a great band, by the way), but Joonyer bought his truck from Alan Edwards. Every time I see Alan at a show around Charlotte, he always comes up and asks me how the truck is running, LOL. It has been a dang good truck for Joonyer.

overall excellent weekend.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thought you already bought a camper?

Feb 27, 2017, 9:44 AM

We looked at this one last Thursday afternoon. Great price on an exceptionally well-kept used model, but they've gotten slightly larger since 2015 and we rode to Cola Saturday to look at the new ones.

https://charlotte.craigslist.org/rvs/6000999286.html

We're not looking to hang out at campgrounds all day, just want a bed and a coffee maker basically. Also, easy cheap crash for football weekends. The one we looked at was a queen-size bed, but the new ones are king, also comes with a microwave now as well. That little bit of difference in width is the difference between being able to take Tiger with us on a trip or not. And, they come in orange, which is must have color. Only 1000 pounds so it can be towed with anything larger than a Smart Car.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah, we bought a camper last year

Feb 27, 2017, 10:03 AM

just to see if we liked camping, hubby LOVES IT. So we were looking to find something that we could enjoy.

Queen bed or bigger is the main objective, the present bed, well... you sort of kiss the wall everytime you move.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The thing I notice after going to look is them in person is

Feb 27, 2017, 10:12 AM

that queen and king in camper parlance is NOT the same size as king and queen in home bedding. And, the 'king' beds are either in teardrops, or in $100k travel trailers and not much in-between. There are some in pop-ups, but I'm not looking at those...don't want to deal with set up or wet canvas.

I/we have camped for 25 years. From a tent 2 a 5th wheel. If, BIG IF U have something that will pull it a 5th wheel is BT FAR THE WAY TO GO!!!Even the T/v reception is much better! and the storage is great! Some of them now come with an extra grill that mounts to the rear bumper and the leveling system is just so easy! Some of them now are small enough for a 1500 pick-up to pull them!Check them out!!

Feb 27, 2017, 8:40 AM

Friday: Don't remember

Saturday: Daughter of at gymnastics. Cleaned the house afterwards. Kids went to in laws for the night. Great night.

Sunday: Slept in. Switched to HIIT training for my running instead of couch to 5k. Went to inlaws to pick up kids and ate steaks on the grill.

Feb 27, 2017, 9:12 AM

Friday, long hike with pup in the warm, summery weather. Hiked the shoreline of the lake from the large concrete water retaining structure all the way around to the cove with the city water intake and spooked up two large herds of deer, which makes Tiger a very happy canine because she gets to growl and bark at them incessantly. Then back to the house to make French bread pizza, because had a baguette that was we never got around to eating all week and I hate to let it go to waste. Turned out good, and still had a nice sized slice to eat with morning coffee and Saturday and Sunday. Thinned the herd in the beer fridge further, got swallowed up by Big Chair, woke up around midnight and went to bed.

Saturday, got up early and drank coffee, caught up on DVR things, took pup out to play for a while. Came back in and finished up chores, took pup for her Saturday ride to the dump. Left for Columbia around noon to go look at campers in cootlumbia, think we have narrowed it down to what we want but did not buy yet. I-77 was at a standstill when we left Rock Hill, so drove back through the country and came up through lovely Chester. Rode around downtown and looked at the tourist heaven they have there, then back home. Put the pup out to play in the yard while I got grill prepped, then drank beers and grilled steaks. Tried the method I read about...slathered steaks in Duke's Mayo then S&P, garlic & onion powder. They came out excellent, will do again. Drank more beers, watched Captain Phillips, and got swallowed up by Big Chair, woke up after midnight and went to bed.

Sunday, woke up and drank coffee. Got a few chores down then went to grocery store. Came home and made huge salad for pizza party at RH Sis' boyfriend's house. Drank beer, ate pizza, watched last 30 minutes of race, ate pizza. Went home and watched MEHpisode of Walking/Talking Dead, did not watch BLAHscars, went to bed.

Fairly tame, yet productive weekend. When I opened the envelope this morning, I saw that the best weekend award went to RH and Mrs RH Tig for their performance in RH Tig's Great Weekend, totaling 9.5 Yelp stars, with the only deduction being turning on the radio to hear the last 8.5 seconds of our LAUGHsketball game on the way home from cootlumbia.

Cooked the brisket on Saturday

Feb 27, 2017, 9:34 AM

4.5 pounder went for 7 hours almost to the minute. Overall it was edible so that was positive. I never wrapped it, never even opened the grill until it hit 195. By then the point was perfect, but the flat had dried out a bit. It wasn't jerky like by any means, but wasn't as moist as I had wanted. I'm wondering if next time I should put it fat cap up and/or wrap it once it hits 170. My rub turned out excellent though, it had a good flavor.

Did absolutely nothing yesterday, and yet somehow I feel tired today.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That sounds like how my brisket attempts have worked out

Feb 27, 2017, 10:14 AM

so far. I just can't figure out how to keep the flat from drying up. Mine has been more like jerky though and not that great.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ROH

I may try to cover the top with bacon next time

Feb 27, 2017, 10:28 AM

Either that, or cook fat side up. I'm also wondering if I trimmed too much fat off of the top. Gotta have that bark though.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm no expert, but I've had good success with...

Feb 27, 2017, 10:28 AM [ in reply to Cooked the brisket on Saturday ]

wrapping (called Texas Crutch) brisket when it starts to stall. That's normally around 150F-160F.

I wrap is tightly in 2 layers of foil and normally add a little bit of beer or apple juice to the foil (don't pour over meat since it can take the rub off). The key is wrapping it very tight so no steam gets out and so the juice can't pocket and boil the meat.

I cook it to 203F and then wrap it in towels and put in cooler. I leave a temp probe in and pull it out to slice when it cools down to 165F-170F.

There are all kinds of opinions on wrapping. It's finding the balance between enough time to break down the meat so it's tender, but not cooking so long that it's dry. To me, wrapping the meat when it starts to stall shortens the cooking time enough that it lessons the chance that it will dry out.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How does your bark come out when you wrap it though?

Feb 27, 2017, 10:32 AM

Time isn't really that big of a deal to me, I made damper adjustments to the akorn a grand total of 2 times the entire 7 hours, so I can essentially set it and forget it.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Bark comes out ok...

Feb 27, 2017, 10:51 AM

The bark is not as important to me as texture and juiciness. I know some people will take the wrap off at the end and crank the heat a bit to get better bark.

The timing is not so much about saving time, but shorting the cooking time enough so the meat doesn't dry out.

Feb 27, 2017, 9:39 AM

Friday - drove from north of the ATL to Memphis for daughterof-'s cheer competition. There's absofuckinglutely nothing between Birmingham and Tupelo. Makes for good times... Dinner Friday was at the Blues City Cafe. #### good ribs. Could not pick them up because the bones pulled right out.

Saturday - Up to get 8 miles on the treadmill before showering and heading out for breakfast at the Blue Plate Cafe, then took sonof- to the Memphis Firefighters Museum. A lot of fun, good for a couple hours of climbing on fire truck replicas and playing in the kids area. Stopped and grabbed lunch on the walk from there to the Cook Convention Center for half of the cheer squad since the concession stand was teh suck at the event. daughterof-'s team performed well, no misses, unlike the last competition and ended day one only .06 points behind a really good team. Evening church (conveniently across the street from the hotel) then dinner at Aldo's Pizza Pies on Main Street. Good pizza, good canoli.

Sunday - Up to get showered then grab quick a bagel and cream cheese for wifeof- and a box of raisin bran for daughterof- since they had to be over at the competition at 9:00. Sonof- and I made sure the hotel room was packed up, then walked back over to Blue Plate Cafe for breakfast. Really good pancakes (I ate them all, #FatTuesdayonaSunday). Walked down Front Street on the way back to check out and meet wifeof- for the Day 2 festivities. Cheer drama ensues over a near no-show due to a bitchy cheer mom tiff over lipstick shades (yes, I #### you not. The shade of lipstick almost caused a blanket party). daughterof-'s team nails the performance, but so does first place team. daughterof- and her team finishes second, at about the same margin as they ended day 1. Ghost from the arena after awards, grab a quick lunch, during which sonof- drinks about a 2-liter worth of Diet Mountain Dew (ugh! I'll take the crab juice) and we hit the road. 14 pee-stops (remember that absofuckinglutely nothing between Birmingham and Tupelo? Yeah, good times) and about 6.5 hours later, we get home.

Good weekend. Wish it was warmer and I wish we had some more time to explore. Maybe we'll go back during the summer and without a cheer squad attempting to ruin our plans.

Wife of was out of town until Saturday night late, so the dogs and I laid around and did nothing most of the week.

Friday-neighbor of IE and I walked up to The Southern (Mt P bar) and had a few beers and dinner. He wants to buy a boat, so we talked about that. Left before the band started. Was bored when I left so I walked the dogs around the hood.

Saturday-dog stuff, errands (Sears will still replace Craftsman tools), then decided I'd golf cart it to Red's to drink a beer since it was so pretty out. All of Mt Pleasant and the local Parrothead club had the same idea. Drank beer there for 3 or 4 hours, listened to some bands, came home and drank a few more beers. Wife of showed up and bachelorhood died a valiant death.

Sunday-Met some friends at Mellow Mushroom (still no MauldinT), went to lowe's, not sure what happened the rest of the day until last night. Watched the most boring zombie show, and later Black Sails.
