Glad to see Joe Tesatore of ESPN College Football Live use

the term "Power 5 conferences" about 10 times during an interview with the Big East commissioner yesterday. I guess ESPN knows that Big 4 leaves the ACC out. And ESPN is not about to let their 15-year investment and only conference that they have total investment in, become an outsider looking in. So you can look forward to the term Power 5 as it appears ESPN is really ramming that home.

Also it is general consensus that the ACC, with the Orange Bowl tie in and deal to place a team in other access bowls, is at the big table.

Conclusion: One of our main worries of not being considered a major conference with the other four is no longer a concern. And I really thought that it would be hard to keep us out of the big table with teams like VT, FSU, Clemson, Miami, GT and then other major state universities like UNC, NC STATE, Maryland, Virginia. Also the expansion to include the huge states of Pennsylvania and New York making the ACC THE contiguous eastern seaboard conference.

actually I'd suspect it was meant in more of a Big East way. They seem to always be pumping up UConn and trying to inflate their profile

No, he was definitely asking the BEast commissioner how they

were going to deal with the fact that there now appears to be a Power5 and then the rest. And he grouped the Big East with the MWC and ConUSA.

thanks. I was just basing it on ESPN's past practice of trying to elevate Uonn's football profile

the big east doesn't have any relevant teams anymore or traditional powers.

Either that, or ....

Jul 11, 2012, 12:20 PM

ESPN has already copyrighted the phrase "Power 5" and wants to make as much money from it as possible.
