Definitely. Exceedingly loyal, smart, protective. They do need a confident leader and training is, in my opinion, definitely worthwhile. They are quite powerful and investing in some professional training can pay huge dividends. Also they love having something to do to keep their brains active, and having some commands you can run through periodically with them is one way to stimulate them.

We've had 4, and I agree (thumbs up) with him 100%.***

Absolutely the best ! Smart and bonds to your family, not other dogs. easily trainable. We have a three year old female, and my wife would probably pick her over me in a crunch.

lol funny on the wife thing. we have 6 dogs in total and I am pretty sure I would fall no better than 5th on a list of my wife's favorite living things.

Wife wanted a smaller dog. We had to put down our last GS

due to cancer after 13 loyal years. She wouldn't even consider another breed. I've been around GSs my entire life. I won't either.

I forgot to add that we now have a 13-week-old male that

Jul 25, 2012, 2:20 PM

is already house trained, sits/lies/shakes on command and even travels like a pro from the very first 3-hour trip as an 8-week-old.

We got a German Shepherd in February. Named her Sammy. Extremely intelligent and playful. She can be too smart for her own good though as she has figured 3 different ways to get out of our fenced in backyard. At roughly 8 months old she is already nearly as big as our oldest (and biggest) older dog. I fully expect her to push 80 plus pounds before she stops growing so be prepared for a lot of large piles of crap to clean/mow. :)

I've had 6... they have best of all traits.***

Best dog there is in my opinion. Highly recommend it, smart, intuitive, great companion dogs, and the ones I've owned have been great with other pets.

God bless dogs and their families.

I hope that dogs are actually aware of how much we love them.

I don't know your living situation but

the majority of apartment communities will not allow them. I don't know if you would ever live in an apartment or whatever, but it's just something to keep in mind.

Very smart and loyal dogs. I grew up around German Shepherds and they are of course my favorite breed.
Mine is 6 months old and very good company.
