BB Guns?

We may be going a bit far arresting kids for having a weapon on campus when it's a BB gun. One of our investors also owns a stake in Daisy and I'm familiar with how BB guns have changed. They are actually less dangerous today than they were when I was a kid.
That said, this incident does show a general lack of maturity. Yes, they're early enrollees and while physically able to play college football, they should be high school seniors. As more and more kids start enrolling early, they will have less and less time to grow up before they're given all the freedom of a college freshman. Think back. For me, that was the first time I could literally do whatever I wanted with minimal consequences. I went from head of the church youth group to ...., so I'm not throwing stones, but I'm saying this shows an area where we need to do more, not less for these young men.

When did BB guns become "weapons"?

We used to have BB gun wars in the neighborhood when we were young. One of the rules was no shooting at the head and most of us wore helmets and/or goggles just in case...
BB guns were more powerful back in the 70s and 80s too. Even then, I'm not sure if you could kill someone with them.
I think the worst injury we ever had was getting pinged on the knee cap.
What is happening to this country where a BB gun is considered a weapon and can earn you a felony charge?!?
(As it relates to the UGA players, they should have known better than have them in on-campus housing if it is against the rules. BUT, a FELONY? Come on!)
