FYI, TB did nothing positive for our "football program"

Aug 14, 2012, 3:27 PM

I would say he is one of the biggest reasons we are just now getting back to being a consistent competitor like we look to be getting to.

People want to give him credit for facilities, beating USuC, etc. He didnt do that, FYI TDP took our facilities to a new level and USuC sucked then. Yeah grad rates went up and that is great, but it didnt equal wins and wins is what wins trophies, not diplomas, and new buildings.

If he was any good, we would be better than we were when he left.

Clemson (though improved under his tenure in wins) were set back years by his hire.

We hired a name and that was all we got. If his name was Dabo Sweeney, he would be fired in 4 or 5 years tops.

The quality of the coach equals winning period. Dont take my word for, ask Alabama.

He was not, and never will be a good coach. Yes he is a good christian man, yes he seemed to be a good guy; that doesnt make him a good "coach" and that is what you need to WIN.

he improved our program a lot while he was here. the west

years were a disaster. he took over a clemson prgram that was a shell of its former self. but TB reached the ceiling of his potential as a coach. i appreciate what he did, but it was clearly time to move on.

I notice your sig includes

a pic of our 63-17 win over SCAR, one of our three 9-win seasons without a single losing season during his decade as head coach.

Remind me again... who was the coach that did nothing positive?

You could have coached Clemson to beat USuC those years and yea he did put up a couple of 9 win seasons. I would loved to have seen what an above average coach could have done with those teams.

63-17 was great for Clemson fans, Tommy Bowden being fired was better.

Who is Dabo Sweeney?***

We're friends. You laugh, I laugh. You cry, I cry. You jump off a bridge, I get in my boat and save your retarded a$$.

How can you imporove and be set back?

Aug 14, 2012, 3:38 PM

that's probably the biggest contradiction on this board

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

He improved our record from were we were but he did not take us were we should have gotten to under the tenure of a coach for 9 or so years. All he did was get us to medicority. If his name was anything other than Bowden would have been fired in no time. We hung on believing for a decade. Huge set back.

Nothing but better players, academic improvement and

pushing for better facilities.

I'd say he deserves some credit, yes.***

Ha ha. Whatever man. Some of you people are too much.

Bowden was given a 3 and 8 fiasco of a team and facilities that had been passed by everyone that mattered.

South Carolina went 2-7 (22%) against Bowden from 1999 to 2007. During those years they "sucked", they also had a better winning percentage against Arkansas (33%), Georgia (33%), Bama (50%), Vandy (78%), Miss St (83%) and Kentucky (89%). Only Florida and Tennessee did better against South Carolina at 8-1 instead of 7-2.

Bowden made it known when he came on board that our facilities would be a top priority. You are correct not to give him all the credit, but season ticket sales and average attendance improved significantly under Bowden, all while the prices were going through the roof. We are currently reaping the benefits on his emphasis on the facilities, made possible in part by the massive increase in funding during his tenure as our coach.

Recruiting improved significantly.

As mentioned, the players' academic performance under Bowden was outstanding and continues to be so under Swinney.

During his tenure, we also broke the strangle hold that FSU had on us.

Finally, the idea that he would have been gone a long time before he did finally leave if he had a different name has no basis in reality. For all this "Clemson coaches have it rough" garbage, we actually are pretty forgiving to our coaches. Probably because we understand the value of longevity. West was fired because of performance. 3-8? At Clemson? No sir. Hatfield was "fired" for not being Danny Ford. As a matter of fact, if you're going to look for a Clemson coach with a winning record that was fired based solely on performance, I think you'll have to go back before WW2.

But believe whatever you want.

Not a TB fan but I do agree with your points. TB did a lot

Aug 14, 2012, 5:16 PM

to prepare Clemson for a new phase of winning. I love our current young, passionate coach and he was given a chance to come to Clemson under TB.

Bowden couldn't get us to the next level...

Aug 14, 2012, 5:20 PM

...but to his credit, he certainly layed the groundwork.

I've got no love for TB, but you're insane if you

Aug 14, 2012, 5:27 PM

believe what you just wrote.
