Furman 2012: Most quiet I have heard the Valley...ever!

Sep 17, 2012, 10:38 AM

I know it was Furman, but the Valley was very quiet this weekend. What do you guys think?

Looks like the attendance was great for Furman.

Sep 17, 2012, 10:40 AM

I personally wasn't there, though, so can't comment on crowd noise.

Sounds like it may have been a "day at the office" type of game.

It was a good crowd, I'd say around 80K but it was not loud***

The attendance was wonderful for a game of this sort, and I thought the crowd noise was better than the Ball State game.

I think itt's pretty simple - the game was never .....

Sep 17, 2012, 10:42 AM

really in doubt and the 2nd half was pretty dull - did you expect DV to be loud?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No need to be brash about dominating Furman. We need to

Sep 17, 2012, 10:47 AM

save that energy for some of the upcoming games.

A couple notes...

Sep 17, 2012, 10:50 AM

First let me say that I was much happier about the attendance at this game vs last week. The stadium was pretty full for a Furman game and most people stayed for a long time if not the whole game. The students not on the hill still had a poor showing, by start of the second half that section was looking pretty thin.

The sound system was handled much better. However when it came time for the band it felt weak compared to what the system had been pumping.

To your point: The first drive by Furman was definitely extremely quiet. I think we all went into that game expecting a much stouter defense than we saw two weeks ago and were disappointed from the start. The game was much closer than the score indicated and I think that contributed to the noise level. The big plays still got noise and that was the happiest I'd ever seen the students react to seeing President Barker.

Go Tigers!!!

I thought the students showed up very well and stayed. They were the loudest in the valley. Dang give them some credit

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Good. One of the reasons I quit going to games

Sep 17, 2012, 10:53 AM

Was that it's too durn loud all the time.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

FSU had 15,000 empty seat last week....

Sep 17, 2012, 11:29 AM

Just sayin'.

Maybe more

Sep 17, 2012, 11:43 AM

Between the economy and big screen HD TV's, attendance is down in the big stadiums all over .

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's always quiet for those kinda games***

GO TIGERS

How 'bout this:

Sep 17, 2012, 11:46 AM

A Furman player/friend of mine said the same thing. It was his first time there. So I found myself explaining it away - the fact it was not a competitive game (hated to hurt his feelings). The fact that a real game it gets deafening. He understood I guess, but he had thought it would be louder.

You are right, it was quite, but what was there to be all loud and rowdy about? The game was never close.

No where remotely close

Sep 17, 2012, 12:29 PM

1972 we lost 7-3 to Duke for Homecoming! And there were pretty quite crowds during Tommy West's tenure as well!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was in there one night in late October 1973

Sep 17, 2012, 12:35 PM

Thinking it was a Thursday around 11 PM. It was REALLY quiet...

Oh wait, not what he was talking about.

Never mind

How can we say that game was much closer than the score indicated.? I can agree with that type of statement in a gem that is tight until the 4th quarter and one team scores a couple of touchdowns, maybe one on offense and then a pick 6. It was 41-7 where our most talented weapons barely touched the ball. Do you guys not believe we could have come out and scored 80 if we had really wanted to? Not flaming any poster. Just curious. It was not a close game.
