FSU QB (dismissed) situation

Jul 7, 2015, 12:46 PM

I've been reading about this situation and it seems the right thing is going down, with him being dismissed form the team AND charges filed against him...

However...and I gotta speak on this. There seems to be something very disturbing happening. Perhaps nobody wants to talk about it, or they/ you may see things differently than I do, but I'm gonna bring it up anyway and if you want you can reply with your 2 cents.

I agree with anyone that says its never ok to hit a woman. When these things happen, theres a mob yelling for the guy to get kicked off the team, lose his job, etc etc.. But people seem to be holding their tongue for the actions of the woman, if she has struck the guy first. Again I'm not saying its ok to hit a woman, what i'm saying is its not ok to hit anyone. It seems in a weird sorta way society is saying, ..sure hit him, spit in his face, kick him in the balls, whatever you wanna do, coz all he can do is walk away

I do understand the point about men being larger and stronger (in most cases). You could argue the same if it were a larger woman being struck and hitting a smaller woman, or a large man hitting a smaller man. We are all human beings, and our fuses aren't all set the same

I guess my point is where is the outrage? I have both sons and daughters, and I have taught them to walk away from a fight, if you can. I've taught my sons not to hit a girl, and I don't want my babygirl(s) growing up thinking she can strike a guy whenever she chooses either

It's what happened prior to the punches.

Jul 7, 2015, 12:54 PM

It appears as though the woman was at the bar first in front of a chair. He walked directly into her. They looked at each other and had words. He nudged her more and then tried to get the chair that she was holding in front of her. Looked like a struggle over position at the bar or the stool itself. At that point they had more aggressive words. She balled her fist and he grabbed both of her hands. When he grabbed her by the hands she squirmed loose and threw a punch. I'm not sure whether it landed or not, and then he proceeded to punch her hard enough to slam her face on the bar as well as waste alcohol by turning over drinks on the bar.

Point being he ran into her, ran into her again, tried to take the stool she had, then when she fought back he bombed her.

That's just what I see in the video. He should have walked away when they first had words.

99% agree with your post. The only issue I want to ...

Jul 7, 2015, 10:54 PM [ in reply to It's what happened prior to the punches. ]

... point out is when she balled up her right fist. She actually has her thumb pointed backwards (who knows what point she was trying to make or what she was saying). Pretty much no one balls up their fist to hit someone with their thumb pointing back. I know that's splitting hairs, but just thought it was important to point out. Other than that, you are absolutely correct. The true context of this issue took place prior to any punches being thrown.

Did you watch the video. There wasn't much behind her swing, and it barely grazed him if it hit him at all. But I do agree with you on one count ... what if it had been a 120 pound man taking the hit. There would be no story at all. But with the direction that some women are heading, I shudder to think how these situations will turn out in the future.

Two things I take from this situation ...

1) There are a growing number of women who support gender neutrality and gender equality across the board. We are not supposed to see or acknowledge the differences between men and women. If we keep heading down this path, a time will come when this kind of behavior is accepted.

2) IMO, if the fuse is that short, this isn't the first or last time something like this will happen. If you hit a woman like that you have no morals or values and you were raised by animals.

Jul 7, 2015, 1:22 PM

I did see the tape...I saw what appears to be the girl attempting to knee him in the nads, and he grabs her arms and she takes a swing at him. and he clocks her... without audio its hard to tell what was said and why things happened as they did. To your point, there is no rule in self defense (which he is claiming) that you can only hit someone as hard as they hit you. And as another poster said women have long argued for equal treatment, and I have stood with them for combat roles and other things like that. There certainly seems to be a double standard of women can do anything a guy can...unless they hit you then you better slink away, because how dare you hit smaller weaker gender

past her and to the bar, when she whipped around and used the N word on him. There are supposed to be witnesses to verify this. What does that have to do with him wacking that girl upside the head? Really nothing but it gets the narrative a little louder she deserved it in some way....

Jul 7, 2015, 1:32 PM

yeah I agree, words can never justify a punch in the jaw, even if she did drop N word. I'm just looking at it from the actions. She says something and clenches her fist, he then grabs her arms...I dont think grabbing a person's arms constitute assault, but i'm no lawyer. she then tries use her knees to say hello... then takes a sad, drunken punch and he punches her back

Actually there is a rule...

Jul 7, 2015, 2:17 PM [ in reply to Re: FSU QB (dismissed) situation ]

Having taken self defense and concealed weapon classes I can tell you that in the state of SC and other states the law says that you cannot retaliate in self defense with more force than you are being threatened with. For instance if a person of equal size punches you, you are not automatically justified in stabbing them with a knife or other weapon. In this case it is a woman who is naturally assumed to be inferior physically to a scholarship athlete at FSU. If she punches him it does not give him the right to punch back or go into an all out fight just because she may have started it. The key is you must only return force appropriate to that which you are threatened with. If a professional boxer viciously attacked you or me we would be justified to use deadly force such as a knife or other weapon because the attacker is capable of threatening your life due to their size, skill and training regardless of if they have a weapon or not. She probably should not have reacted the way that she did however he absolutely is not justified in hitting her because doing so created a disparity of force. He likely would be justified in grabbing her hands (as he did) or pushing her away once she attempted to strike him. He should have walked away once he was struck and gone to the police himself.

I have thought about this. I think it is time for law

Jul 7, 2015, 1:09 PM

enforcement to realize that it is up to them to encourage charges and litigation against women in lieu of physical violence. And they need to try and dispel the stigma that comes with "ratting" on a belligerent and aggressive female.
In the case of the QB, what if he had just taken the violence the girl was going to put on him, then called the police and reported her? Unfortunately, he would be called a wussie and be ridiculed for turning in a chick, but it is the best and fair thing to do. Would LE have reviewed the tape and arrested HER? I doubt it.
Violence against a woman is wrong, but there is also a problem with the freedom a female has to inflict violence on any man they want for lack of fear of repercussion.
I saw a lot of situations first hand in college and younger days where a guy just had to take getting scratched, kicked and pummeled because of an angry girlfriend. Luckily, I only saw a guy hit a girl once, as most of the time the guy would just take it a scream at the girl.

BTW, I am not defending him in any way. He was wrong and should not have been in the bar to begin with and he obviously has a priviledged attitude.

for assault or whatever and knew that they would also have repercussions, then just maybe it would also deter them from being in the situation to get hit.

In no way am I condoning hitting a woman, but some of the crazy ones abuse the notion that they are untouchable. Doesnt apply in this case, but maybe in some.

He should have filed a report with the management and local authorities. A display of that much anger toward a female shows lack of self control and needs discipline.

a spot at the bar. When the people in front of her move out of the way, she slides in (it appears there is a bar stool there), when Johnson basically moves in from behind and starts shoving her out of the way. When she protests, he grabs her, they exchange words, she punches him, he punches her. I know it's hard to pass judgement based on this video alone, but that much is pretty clear to me. It looks like this is all on him, 100%.

Oh God he comes the excuses for males PUNCHING women. They were both drunk or intoxicated of some sort. He should have walked away or got here kicked out. There was some sort of argument going on. I think you either didn't read my post or misread it. I clearly said several times that I don't think a man should hit a woman.

The gist of my post was the woman's behavior, and what I feel society has sid its ok for women to do..such as hit a man if they like. Which I think is dead wrong

Re: FSU QB (dismissed) situation

Jul 7, 2015, 8:59 PM

I'm old school. Men should not hit women unless it's pure, provable, demonstrable self-defense, and it's usually durn hard to get there unless the girl just plain snaps like Single White Female. Period.

That said...this one smells a little funny, and I would be interested to hear the whole story. He absolutely got what he deserved...but there was something off with the girl, and she was being visibly contemptuous and belligerent. She definitely said something to him, and she definitely swung first, blithely confident he wouldn't dare touch her back...pouring gasoline on the fire, in other words. Did she drop the "n" word? Wouldn't shock me, from that video. She did not appear to be winning any Miss Congeniality awards, whatever.

Not excusing his actions in any particular. He should have walked away...and just clocking her? Like, wow. Dude. He's losing any career he might have had because of this; no NFL team will touch him now even if he somehow finds a college willing to take him - it won't be a good one, and it certainly won't be FSU - and then somehow tears it up in college, this will follow him around the rest of his life. If I was an NFL GM, I wouldn't touch him with a ten-foot pole no matter how good he ends up being. That video won't ever go away.

If you can't be moral, dude, be smart.

But this looked like reality TV at its worst. Two entitled, me-first people cross paths, pointless ugliness ensues, and you're sort of left shaking your head that people that selfish and with that little self-control or moral compass are just walking around in the world. It struck me as more than a bit like watching one of those fistfights we've all seen erupt in a parking lot when two jerks go for the same parking spot and end up creating a fender-bender because neither one will back off and they both assume the other one will if they're just aggressive enough.

It's like: geeze, people. Courtesy. Simple human courtesy. As Robert Heinlein once said, politeness is the grease that allows the machine of humanity to work together. Deliberate rudeness is tossing sand into the gears of a machine that works none too well at the best of times.

She was the victim of by far the greatest crime committed on that tape, but she didn't look too good in the process. I'd prosecute the guy, assuredly...because that guy is dangerous and way outta line if he can go 0-60 and hey, now I'm punching a chick in the face, just that fast. I also would not be inclined to feel particularly sorry for her based on what I saw. Does that make me a bad person?

in most of the cases in Greenwood, the woman was the main aggressor. The males did not hit back and the woman just kept on and on...the males are the one's that called LE. Kudos to the men for not hitting back because they knew it would be them taken to jail trying to defend themselves. I several cases the men just got the kids and left

That girl did nothing wrong, he was grabbing and pushing up on her first. The way he hit her in the face he needs the royal chit kicked out of him.
That showed that he is a punk ### thug that thinks he is going to do what he wants to do.

Any woman that close fist punches a man deserves whatever she started.

That was classless by both parties, but ahe is certainly no angel and if that were my daughter I would be asking her what the heck did she expect to happen?

This double standard is absolutely sickening.

And it happens to everyone of these NFL guys all year long. You think in every case the woman was just a complete angel bystander and did nothing to provoke violence? 90% of the time they instigated it because society gives them all the right.

Certainly its not right on either side but it for sure is out of kilter in one direction lately. A woman can just punch and kick and scream and in our society they are given free reign to do so with no repurcusions.
