Fred Davis?

Jul 15, 2022, 10:30 AM

I probably just missed it but what is the latest with Fred. I have never heard the results of the accident. He came in highly recruited and could be a big performer if he can get on the field.

The car accident and arrest was in August 2021

The 2021 season has happened since then, and he played in 9 games for us last year.

I'm sure the arrest was a distraction though, and it seemed to set him back as he played less last year than he did in 2020 (his FR season). He should be a regular contributor for us again this season. I'm not sure if he'll be a starter, but he should be one of our top-3 CBs along with Jones and Wiggins.

You didn't address the question

The case disappeared and was fairly serious as a postal worker was injured, apparently seriously. The speed was also apparently excessive. The case went away from the media eye. What was the final verdict/result?

Davis requested a jury trial. Due to Covid, there is a huge

backlog, and it's unlikely he will go to trial before his career at Clemson is over.

Also, in SC there is currently no enhancer for reckless driving that results in serious bodily injury. If the accident had resulted in the loss of life, Davis could have been hit with a reckless homicide charge, but his charge in this case is merely reckless driving. The maximum punishment for reckless driving for Davis (assuming this was his first offense) is 30 days in jail, a $200 fine, and 6 demerit points.

So, his football career really should not be affected by the results of his court case.

He has probably been sued for the accident, that might have made a difference in his on the field performance last season.
