For you other old timers. Did last night feel like those old

games we use to have with FSU, where we felt like we were going toe to toe with FSU and then, BAM!, Peter Warwick, or Warrick Dunn, or Boldin, or Deon....just flat out makes a play and it was over. All of a sudden, a close game is a semi blow out. I felt like last night, we just kept the press on until we snapped one off and that was it for BC.
We are getting there!

Me too! Will gladly be called and "Old Timer" if that is what the term is for those of us blessed to live in the Danny Ford era. Gotta say that the Dabo era is just as much fun, though!

I was also at the puntroskie game and remember how devastating it was to lose a game on an explosive trick play that we had really taken over and appeared on the way to victory. Years later I now work with the guy that was FSU's backup quarter back, PT Willis. When we talked about the game he said he remembers practing that play all week and thinking this will never work. Years later PT was drafted by the Bears and was Jim Harbough's back up on a team full of former Clemson Tigers. On road games, the team always watched college football on Saturday and the veteran players picked the game. He said the Bears watched a lot of Clemson games because that's who the Fridge always picked, and nobody on the team was going to tell him no.

obviously the definition of "old timer" is relative
Old Timers by my definition remember a time when most game started at 1300, sirens went off over at the P Plant, and if we scored 34 points in a game it was a huge blowout.
And around the stadium one could enjoy the smell of cigarette smoke and bourbon on a nice fall day.

and there was no rap "music". Tiger Band was the entertainment. Yes, the big screen is nice for watching re-plays, but I just can't take the random bits of horrible "music". Not entertaining when I want to watch football.
Another trend that I have noticed while at the games - so many people getting up and moving around, not watching the game. I realize it is a social event, but leave that out at your tailgate spot. There was a group on my row that got up at least 6 times to go and do whatever.
Guess I am an Old Timer...

i thought Danny Ford was coaching because we kept running it up the middle

For no or little gain. But like Danny's teams we still one. Don't get me wrong, I love coach Ford but sometimes the offensive play calling was frustrating.

Remember the cheer "More Up the Middle, More Up the Middle!!"?? We used to scream that out, as Danny kept calling the same play over and over again. But we won...

I/power I formation, triple option, sprint out option, no shotgun...all with establishing a pound-it-out running game in mind. Extremely fast hitting fullback plunges into the line...too fast sometimes in my opinion looking back...gaps just weren't open yet. Very rare long passes, considered too risky. Most passes were 20 yards or less sideline routes.
Sounds limiting but national championships were won every year based on this type play. Pass happy teams were mostly from the west coast and could occasionally pull stunning upsets but weren't known to rise to the upper echelons of play.
