First batch of wine from the Vidal Blanc grapes

Sep 1, 2021, 8:23 PM

As some of you know I planted a few vines 3 and a half years ago in a (IMO) decent micro climate area in northern Greenville county under hogback mtn. This year was my first harvest and I really only got enough for one mason jar of the Vidal blanc grapes. To experiment I made a few batches of peach wine as well from peaches in the orchard.

Just finished the first fermentation and now it will undergo secondary fermentation for 6-8 weeks before I bottle it. I didn’t taste it but smelled like Str8 alcohol which web says is right. The secondary fermentation is when some of the harsh flavor is replaced by the grape and peach flavors. It will prob be terrible but just practicing for when I have many more grapes. Pig attached.

It will get a lot more clear.

I had to pour it today through strainer to get out the fruit and the sediment but I’m not supposed to filter it yet, I’ll filter it w a cheese cloth and funnel after the 2nd fermentation. A lot more will settle in the next 2 months and then I’ll filter it and bottle.

Party at my house to do demonstration speeches. One girl brought homemade muscadine wine. As we sat there drinking it and commenting that it was good, we asked her how she made it. “Oh, in my bathtub” was her reply. Luckily she was hot so we just looked at each other, nodded, and then kept drinking.

Weird how hot can cover up dirty, especially at that age.

Party at a student's house to give speeches for a grade = on-brand for Eddie's class.

That will always be one of my all-time favorite classes I ever took in all of my education.

a lowcountry boil. Other notable speeches given that night were how to do kegstands and how to do bong rips.

I hope Eddie has tenure now. I'm not sure he'd last long in this day and age without it.

He's retired.

Still lives at the Ridge. I didn't know he still lived there, and I've tailgated in Lot 25 for years (the hill that overlooks the intersection and TD's). Someone came by our tailgate, said they had been there, and I asked them to take me by. That's the thing with Eddie; I hadn't seen him in years and years, yet he still remembered me the moment I walked in the door and offered me drinks. That dude doesn't seem to forget anyone.

One day....maybe one day, TRDJ will go all story time

about ES.

It would take a bit of time to recall and write it all though. On 2nd thought, prolly best to keep it off the web.
