Clemson Hosting a Regional - Biggest Obstacle

Last week we broke down where Clemson stood in terms of earning a regional bid using 10 years' worth of historical data.

Because of location we might be better off than NCSU

Unless NCSU is a huge lock, I think being 10 minutes from UNC who is assured of a regional/super could work against them. I can't remember ever having 2 regionals that close together. If the rainout game is all that seperates Clemson from NCSU I would bet the committee gives us the nod because of the series win.

Of course this assumes that Clem and NCSU put in credible and reasonable bids. Money talks!

Very good thought. I might go back through the stats to see if those two have ever both hosted in the same year. If not, the nod goes to UNC as they will be a top 3 seed.

The two have hosted regionals in the same year twice in the last decade: 2012 & 2008.

It could have been more, but NC State went through a few years of not even being considered.

You are overlooking some other significant factors.

1. NC State does not draw well at home. (Nor, for that matter, does UNC). The NCAA wants butts in seats. Advantage Clemson.

2. Even if a regional inspired the NC State faithful, their stadium is small, and generally sucks. Advantage Clemson.

3. Regionals are, to a significant degree, bidding wars. Clemson rarely, if ever, gets outbid, even if it means losing money on the regional. Advantage Clemson.

If it comes down to us vs. N.C. State I really like our chances.
