York,I know you said things can change, and it now looks like Ga.Tec.is getting involved. I use to live in Dallas and I have friends that go to UT. I asked them what was the word going around in their conference about expansion. They said that at UT, it was for different reasons, but the majority did NOT want to expand and that around the league nobody wants to take a team that will bring the price down for any of them. That sounds reasonable to me and just wondered how we stack up. I think that would put us at #3.Fla.St., Ga.Tec., Us. I'm having trouble between Us and Ga.Tec.Could Tec steal our thunder?

How did you go from living in Texas to becoming a fan of the ####? Inquiring minds want to know.

How did you turn into a cocklover? Surely you didn't go to school there. And why do you have "tiger" in your name anyway? Seems odd. Really odd.

anything out of TX is what Dodds wants you to hear b/c he doesn't want to be seen as raiding the ACC.
Big XII has already told him to quiet down.

Anyone who thinks Tech "brings the Atlanta market" doesn't know what they're talking about. That's all we keep hearing. But Atlanta sports fans don't care about Tech. They care about UGA.

In all honesty, I don't buy the "TV market share" idea that much to begin with.
Think about it, when the ACC expanded to add BC, Miami and VT, everyone started clamoring that the ACC had locked up the 2nd biggest TV market in the country, Boston, by adding BC. Truth be told, no one in Boston gives a rats a$$ about BC. Call in to a sports radio show in the middle of September and ask a question about the BC football teams matchup with Clemson, UNC, VT or anyone else the coming weekend, and I'd be willing to bet they'd either - 1) hang up on you or 2) laugh at you - simply because they're more interested in talking about and watching the Red Sox pennant race or Tom Brady and the Patriots.
Do you think that by adding Rutgers, the ACC would go to ESPN and the other networks and say, "okay now we need to renegotiate our TV deal, we have the NYC market." They'd get laughed out the room.
Same holds true for the SEC, which are the biggest proponents of this theory. If they were to get VT, which they seem to want if the dominoes begin to fall, they'd say, "look, we've got the DC market. Lets renegotiate." I don't think thats really what is driving the renegotiation though - I mean, maybe partially. But you can't just add to increase your geographical footprint, it has to better the overall conference product.
If the SEC missed on VT, GT, FSU, Clemson, UNC and NC State, they wouldn't go offer East Carolina a spot in the conference simply to gain a piece of the NC/Charlotte market.
Early on in the game I guess, it may make sense to shop around and see if you can add a school that is both a national brand while at the same time increases your footprint. That is why as things stand now, VT and UNC/NCST are more attractive options to the SEC than, say an FSU or Clemson.

And the falcons. Hasn't the ACC proved TV markets aint all

that by now? ATL, Boston, Miami, DC, NC and what do we have to shot for it? Not much. GT has some history on us, barely. Despite our head to head record lately we have still been the better overall team in last 10 yrs or at least it's about equal. They are going nowhere fast with PJ as coach. We have a higher ceiling, better traveling fans and our home game attendance dwarfs theirs. All they have on us is TV market and in reality it's Dawgs/Falcons/Jackets in that order.

I'd think they do some research on this

With the amount of money involved, I doubt they'd go into just assuming that the average Atlantan is a GT fan. But who knows - the ACC assumed that BC would deliver the Boston / New England market I think.
