Every P5 champion with at least 12 wins will be in the CFP

Oct 29, 2022, 10:10 PM

Assuming at least one P5 champion like Oklahoma St or Utah has two losses.

If history is any indication then at least one P5 champion will end up with two losses.

there will be at least 2 sec teams, one with at least one loss.. no way a tenn, georgia or alabama gets left out with a one loss..
they are trying to lobby for three sec teams, will be interesting, but clemson has to win every game to have chance.. i hope we are ready to play next saturday night,

The SEC will get 2 teams in only if there

Are multiple P5 champions with 2 or more losses.

Look back at the history and published protocol for selecting the participants in the CFP.

It is not a subjective process. The BCS era is over. The 4 team CFP was a huge step towards an NFL type model. The 12 team CFP will go even further.

The selection shows in November are just to sell TV advertisements. They are useless until the P5 champions are determined in December.

Undefeated conference champ, I will agree. One loss and you are rolling the dice, and unless you are a in the SEC or B1G the odds are stacked against you.

Ohio St had 1 loss and was left out for a 12-0 Notre Dame team.

Ohio St is the only P5 champion with 12 plus wins to be left out.

The break down of how to get to the playoffs is the same now as it's always been. The first step is to be a Power 5 school (or Notre Dame)

Undefeated and you're in
1 loss and it comes down to strength of schedule.
2 loses and you are out

So far this year, there are only 6 P5 undefeated teams left. Georgia-Tennesse play next week and Ohio State-Michigan play at the end of the year. So assuming there are no more upsets (there will be more upsets) that only leaves the possibility of 4 undefeated teams. Win and we are in, that should be the main focus.

The regular season isn’t as important as you think it is.

Win your conference with 12 or more wins and you are in.

Once they go to 12 teams (and the PAC-12 dissolves) the formula becomes even less challenging.

An 11-2 ACC champion will have a first round bye once the playoffs expand and the top 4 conference champions get a bye.

Right. The CFP was not created to exclude an undefeated Power 5 conference champ. Win your games and we're in. Lose one and there will be a debate, if the scenario allows it. If you believe otherwise, then you are just feeding into the propaganda of the sports media.
