Do any of you other old timers remember the good ole days?

Member, back when no self respecting Clemson Tiger would pull for another ACC team? Wow, were those glorious years!
IDK, something happened to good Clemson folk recently. Evidently a large part of us decided to seek entertainment on a network partnered with some other southern type football conference. That fake sports network pushed their partner conference on the general public and some really fine Clemson folk fell victim to their hype.
Evidently, fans of the lower esteemed teams in that other conference began to fall victim to the hype first and created a tribal grudge in their minds. As if one team in that conference was a win for all.
Now, low and behold; Clemson fans are posting support for the likes of FSU, UNC, UM, VT, NCS and some of our other historical rivals.
I know why you guys want to pump the ACC but this coming on Clemson's premier website and pumping FSU or any of those teams who at one time or another were actual competition for Clemson is embarrassing to your elders, those of us who lived though the onslaught of FSU's reign of terror over Clemson or VT's yearly butt whupping we got from them.
For heaven's sake, take it to a knockoff Clemson website rather than contaminating the tone and harmony we traditionally enjoyed on Tnet. Or just knock it off all together, will you?
I don't give a rat's cooter if FSU never wins another game. Same sentiments for VT, UNC, Miami, NCS, Wake and the rest of those teams which are no more important than that girl who peed her pants in the back 65 years ago when I was in the first grade. I don't remember her name, get it?
I declare, if fan focus had any real bearing on a football game Clemson would go O fer this season with half the fans pulling for our mortal enemies. You guys are enough to make a preacher cuss!

I'd like FSU to be highly ranked when we beat them. And I'll never pull for LSU.

Well the young idiots are used to participation trophies. They think we should pull for all the teams equally. It’s all about equity you know. It’s part of our socialist education system.

I don’t think anyone is even suggesting we pull for all teams equally and it’s surprising your mind goes strait to that and socialism. How is it lost on you that in a world of playoff committees that factor a teams SOS that Clemson would and should have a vested interest in a fellow conference team doing well against an established conference that is clearly not in our interest? When we are playing FSU no one on this board aside from BrettFSU will be pulling for FSU and it’s some form of intellectual dishonesty for you to suggest it

But as a truly old Tiger fan, you would certainly remember that those VT “butt whippings” we’re a decidedly, late 20th (1990s) early 21st Century 2000s), phenomenon. Your assessment of FSU is very correct. As I explained in response to you in another post, think of it less as rooting for ACC schools and rooting against SEC schools far, far more.

for the other ACC schools, especially when they're playing an SEC school. I don't give a damm about those schools, but...every time one of those other ACC schools loses, it costs Clemson. By not getting as much money for media rights, not getting as many teams in bowl games, and especially not getting as many teams in the expanded playoff.
Anyone who can't see this, just isn't thinking clearly!

Exactly! I don’t root for a conference but when a conference foe can beat a SEC or Big10 team it just helps. Again, our Tigers just need to take care of business one game at a time. Avoid UNC and Nancy State performances, take care of bidness and put their best foot forward in the playoff.

Thanks for responding & echoing my sentiments exactly. Since when can we not root for an ACC rival when they help us defeat a worse hated rival, or to defeat the evil empire known as the SEC.
Congratulations FSU in defeating LSU and the SEC (& the clearly biased ABC/ESPN announcers)!

That has nothing to do with money. USCe, Vandy, Arkansas, Kentucky, Auburn and other SEC schools are proof that money has nothing to do with winning.
Clemson isn't ranked #4 because of money. We don't get 100 mil a year like USCe, Vandy... WE ARE CLEMSON. We look down on everyone.
Conference pride? You use to laugh at the coots for having conference pride. Keep this up and we'll be the object of the laughter.

I understand their passions.
When you sit at the top of a conference and possess the football credentials such as has Clemson's there is no reason to look up for there is no one up there to look up to.
We don't buy players; we don't purchase a bunch of ringers who are NFL bound after one more year, thinking LSU and many others across the land.
We are justified when we hold our heads up high regarding our university and our football team. Other's may cheat and hold their heads up but have no such justification.

My dislike of them and their trashy fans is far more intense right now than my feelings for FSU, who hasn’t beaten us in a while.
You are correct that FSU dominated us for years and that can’t be forgotten. I don’t cheer for them most of the time, but against LSU, a team that killed us recently and is also part of the evil empire known as the SEC? You better believe I’m for the Noles.
I was cheering for Old Dominion to beat Virginia Tech, for ECU to beat the Wusspack, and for App State to beat the University of No Class.

Agree with all of this. A few years back I viewed FSU as our most important rivalry b/c it meant who got a shot at the ACC title. But I just can’t get there lately they’ve been so bad. LSU on the other hand had one great season in CFP era and they (and the other 13 fans bases pulling for them last night) act like they somehow undid Clemson’s amazing CFP success. “You Clemson of the fake Death Valley and lesser Tiger Rag.” So yea, it was surprising to find myself pulling for FSU last night, but I sit here happy about the SEC taking a fall to an ACC team.
And I agree about NCST and UNC. So upsetting they both wriggled off the hook.

This old timer says we must love our enemies … which in football are called “competitors”.
Were it not for competitors our Clemson Tigers would have no teams to beat. I love beating them … I love them.

Listen here boomer, the glory days you speak of weren’t glorious at all. Last night we would have had to listen to the game on the radio because our 2 tv “stations” in range didn’t have it on. The teams would have been sub par talent because blacks couldn’t play and some committee would have been choosing who they thought was number 1 (through their bigoted eyes) so no playoff implications to worry about. I watched it on my phone in a window while chatting here on Tnet (something else your glory days didn’t have). I wouldn’t go back with you to that boring life if I could stay there forever

I do not know what Koolade you have been drinking, but as we were leaving the Orange Bowl in 1982, we were chanting "ACC". GT was not a member then and I did not care for the any other conference. So I do not want to hear any of this garbage back in the Good old days. 1970 through 1973 not good and '75 and '76 were pretty poor also.

This conference pumping just started. Even someone in their mid twenties remembers when no one on Tnet wanted to see FSU, UNC, NCS, UM, VT or GT win a single game.
You guys let ESPN mess with your heads. My tribe is nothing but Clemson Tigers.

I’m in my 40’s and I remember a lot of things. What may have been fine then doesn’t translate to what works now and sitting around reminiscing doesn’t win Championships. The game has changed and so have many of the rules. Be like water and flow around it or get dammed up and evaporate. I hope we don’t choose the latter!

I'm a old-timer and can simplify this topic. The word is PERCEPTION. If the ACC is perceived as weak it hurts Clemson in many ways. The main one nobody talks about is recruiting. Over the last 15 years the ACC has been respectful in football. Most years behind the SEC and the Big 10 but ahead of the other conferences. The last 3 years have been terrible for the ACC. With the two super conferences being formed the ACC will probably fall farther behind. Clemson needs the ACC to be good so players will still want to play in the ACC. Also as a fan I would much rather play a good FSU team that beat LSU than if they were terrible.
