around like he will. They've said USC, UCLA, Oregon, Fresno...
Are we completely ignoring Caleb Williams, and the ridiculous amount of QBs on depth charts behind Bo Nix and DTR? Oregon went after Bo because they had a ton of freshmen otherwise. UCLA has a solid backup that went 70% this year behind DTR. And Fresno... Well, their starter (prob the best Fresno QB of all time) will be leaving for the NFL, but their #2 has a TON of experience in their offense.
Not sure DJ would transfer from a top ten program where he IS the starter, for a lower-tier program where he MIGHT be the starter.
This rumor is silly until you show me a team that would:
1. Want DJ to start day 1.
2. Be a top ten team.
... Until then, there's no logic to this rumor.

That makes no sense. What advantage exists for DJ in that scenario?

DJ is NOT transferring. Some fans are throwing rumors... This is not a rumor, just an opinion ,but if Clemson loses to UNC like they did USC and Cade does not at least get the chance to see what he can so, I expect him to transfer because I do not think he will play 2nd violin to DJ next year.

He won't have to, the spring game and fall practice will show Dabo what QB is clearly the best choice for Clemson, no doubt. IMO, if DJ stays at Clemson for another season, he will do so knowing that he won't be the starter....

Just my opinion but I would say there is a greater than 70% chance DJ transfers. I’d be more surprised if he tried to come back here next year than if he doesn’t. He may not transfer, maybe he graduates and has a job of some kind lined up, but I just really don’t see him coming back to Clemson next year.

This staff is straight up with guys. No BS trying to keep them roped into the program. It will be laid out very clearly, "DJ, there's a chance you won't start next year. We love you here and would love to keep you on board, but no guarantees". Something like that.
By coming back to Clemson this year (from out West), he showed he loves Clemson and is committed to the program. When he's told there's a chance he's a backup, he may decide otherwise.

Cade came into Clemson understanding the deal. With that said, he likely felt like it was DJs last year. Unless a miracle performance improvement, I just don't see how we could trot DJ out there again next year with two 5-stars (Cade and Vizzina) nipping at his heels.

He knows he's not appreciated by the general fan-base here. He knows he's underperformed based on fan expectations of him, and his own expectations of him. He knows he's been inconsistent. I think he knows he doesn't have much of a realistic shot at the NFL, especially after this season, and particularly if he can't end on some kind of amazing high note in the ACCCG and the bowl game. I think he misses the west coast and being around family. He's made his big NIL money. I think he'll be happy to go to a smaller school, even, that may have an offense that is more suited to his style and try to finish strong. I'd bet that these last two seasons have been extremely stressful and taxing for him and it wouldn't surprise me if he looks to basically downgrade for simpler and to be able to enjoy being around friends and family.
You'll notice most of my sentences started with "I think" so I obviously admit it's just my own personal opinion, but makes sense to me. He's a good kid who has had a very rough ride - far more difficult than anyone ever expected - but he's never stopped working hard or giving it his best.
It's really unfortunate things didn't work out for him here as everyone had expected. Yes - 2 (kinda 3) good seasons, but no great seasons, no Heisman candidacy, no CFPs, and LOTS of inconsistency and turmoil. I can definitely see him transferring and trying to simplify, de-stress as much as possible, and enjoy his last year w/o all the stress and pressure that a program like Clemson can bring.

Don't get this thread. There is nothing good to come from DJ hanging around another year. Everyone in the country wants to sign his little brother. And someone will. But there is a catch. It's a package deal. 2 Scholarships to get one player. Happens every day. And there's a cherry on top for the team that takes them. They only burn the DJ scholly for 1 or 2 years at the most. They will jump at this deal. DJ will play a few mop up snaps and all will be happy. It will happen. Let the west coast schools line up and make their best pitch.

1. He made a promise to graduate.
2. CDS made a promise to help him get a chance at the NFL, otherwise, he wouldn't if he's riding on the bench.
3. CDS made a decision that this current team isn't quite there yet and decided to stick with his promise.
4. DJ will stick it out through this weekend because he made a promise.
I think it's really that simple. CDS doesn't break a promise. DJ fulfills his end.
After tomorrow night and December Graduation, I wouldn't be surprised if he announces that he's heading back west.
It's not wishful thinking, just trying to apply some logical reasoning for this era.

He would absolutely have to earn the job in spring practice and throughout the season, which would likely require quite a bit of improvement on his part.
I think he's probably better off transferring to an offense that better fits his playstyle. Our offense is best run by a mobile QB who is able to move around to create better angled throws. DJ is a decent power runner, but he often looks like he has concrete strapped to his boots. His acceleration is just not good enough to run the offense.

surprise me if he did transfer. He could be closer to home, play with his brother, and honestly - after three seasons with us and two as a starter, he's still having issues. He has a gun of an arm...maybe he thinks a different offense would fit him better...it happens. Or at the very least, the thought happens to a talented college kid.
I'm not saying he's transferring (I have absolutely no information) but it's not impossible just because he's the current starter on a top 10 team.
Whatever happens, I hope it works out for everyone involved.
