This talented defense is not the same or even close. Sorry, but I think he should have hired a top 5 DC. Streeter seems to be doing “ok”. Worried the defense will cost them a game when they really should win out until the CFP. That game yesterday should have been a blowout!

The D had a bad game sometimes even under Venables. Remember the 2018 SC game? They gave up 600 yards at home.

They were terribly inconsistant last night. As Dabo says, it's easier to get their attention after a win. I expect the defensive line to show out against Syracuse after some long hard practices that are surely coming their way.

The next week, we played Louisiana Tech and gave up 311 passing yards.

You know I’ll wait till basketball season and see if you gripe and complain about the plethora of issues Brownells team will have. Because you sure do nitpick the football team. The difference is the football team wins.
And to answer your question it was the WF game that he last said players lost their mind and played as bad as he’d ever seen. He didn’t say that about the Furman game.

A 20 point lead going into the 4th should have kept us comfortable. But he needs to give our oc some of that tough loving in the meeting room and on the practice field this week too.

Absolutely. The kind of “wasted” offensive possession early in the 4th took the momentum we had clearly established and wrecked it. Doesn’t take the D off the hook, but it should be a TEAM correction IMHO.

Yea, me too. He's on the headset for every play on offense. But the defense was well deserving of a thrashing after that game. Not for a couple of lucky turnovers we would have been in real trouble at the end of that game.

Did you give Coach Swinney credit for dabbling in the NC State play calling? It’s ridiculous you bring up something you have no idea happened or not but if it did that was the reason the offense stalled.

Way back when only 2 teams were selected. Same thing has been true every year - 2 teams or 4.
1. Win 'em all and you're in.
2. Lose one and you need some help.
3. Lose two and you're out.
That adage has been true every year there has been a playoff.

The OC went conservative and stupid at the same time and then they let everyone play on the DL instead of sticking to what worked.

Coaches and players are not happy about the defense against Florida State. That is a good sign. My expectation is defense will have increased intensive practices, then play lights out against Syracuse for a needed win.

He should be upset at himself for not going for the kill and just trying to run the clock out. Defense was on the field too much because we closed the play book and went home in the 3rd quarter.
