The football season may not be going the way we wanted, but there is way more to Clemson University to be proud of than just football.
Clemson is a great academic school, the kids love it here, we're considered one of the most athletic schools overall, one of the safest schools, absolutely one of the most beautiful campuses, and I cannot for the life of me ever remember finding a bad reason to visit Clemson.
My son will be graduated in May, and then will be completing his masters. All is good...
Don't let a very average football season get you down too much. There's a much bigger picture hanging right in front of us.

Speaking of trees, I miss the big, beautiful trees in Lot 5. The Oculus was not happy that the trees were sacrificed. Now, we are suffering the consequences….

It's all frustration city exclusively about what has been a very good football program that is now battling to be on par with Wake and Syracuse. Like we're taking on water and going down by the bow, but the band and players and fans are singing Dear Old Clemson. Frustrating. Embarrassing that the Clemsoning talk is back. We all love the school and give heartily. Fanaticism about our sports programs is part of loving the school.
I do have a problem with the education system overall that is producing kids that are Marxists and Socialists, taught by leftists that have never designed, produced or sold a widget. That's every university except maybe Liberty. We have students in upstate SC that are foaming at the mouth mad because we've removed tampon dispensers from MEN'S bathrooms. Imagine that 30-40 yrs ago. They'd be recommended for mental health counseling. They still should today.
Big digress....sorry.

Agree to a point. Our academics are compromised by the same liberal agenda of Ivy’s. Faculty are not setting high standards in many majors. Teaching is not highly valued - research is paramount. VP for student affairs comments on tampon controversy were at best word salad. His participation in drag queen event two? Three years ago was disgusting. He still has a job. Dabo and his program more closely align with “how it should be” than any other Clemson department.

But, we were certainly not great at football, and had not been, for quite awhile by that point. That did not stop me, and a whole stadium full of my closest friends from showing up and cheering, loudly, for our Tigers every football Saturday. This was before college football became the billion dollar industry that it is today. The student section seating was right down front, in what are now VERY high $$$ season ticket holder territory seats.
Something has certainly been lost from those days. I bemoan its demise, but it ain't coming back. Call it innocence, youthful exuberance, whatever you like, the business of college football has trumped the GAME of college football on a lot of fronts. We get so invested and fanatical as fans that we somehow think these kids personally owe US something. They don't, other than to do their best to play a game, for which they get either praise or ridicule perhaps both in equal measure at the same time!
Clemson football has nothing much left to play for this season except for pride, and a sense of "Us against the world". Dabo says every year that this is a new team, and we took that to be so much coachspeak for a long time. But, as we see now, it IS a new team, struggling mightily to find itself, and what will make THIS particular amalgamation of young humans successful. I will complain, probably, still, going forward. But, they will have my continued support. Someone once said that "Things are never as good as you think they are, or as bad as you think they are." Man, they were right on both counts.

But sadly it continues to drop in rankings. I think kinda like Dabo, those in charge got a little too far and happy when we finally hit the top 20. Now it seems like we are sliding in the wrong direction ever since then.

I will be in Clemson Sunday to watch my youngest get her Clemson ring. She could not be more excited, and neither could I! She will join both siblings, both parents, one grandfather, two great grandfathers, three uncles, three aunts, one first cousin (plus two more currently enrolled), and more extended family than anyone cares to hear about as a graduate of the finest institution ever established.
