Dec 14, 2017, 8:05 AM

Went to college for a Forestry/Timber buyer Degree and now i'm an IT Admin at an ISP. I friggin failed computer science every time I took the class. Dreamed of being a prom star but fell kinda short

I feel like I have probably sucked more out of my degree than anyone ever thought imaginable. Its quite amazing. However, definitely have paid my dues over the years.

Sales job

Kinda close...

The big fail to me is that i interviewed with mass mutual and took a personality quiz and they told me i wasn’t cut out for sales. I won’t cold call, but everything else i can handle

congratulations

Dec 14, 2017, 11:05 AM

on failing the mass mutual test. a##holes are the only ones who pass that test. its always nice to have confirmation that you are not an a##hole.

Business Degree/ concentration in Entrepreneurship

Dec 14, 2017, 8:22 AM

Mainly because it was essentially a concentration that you had to take major classes in all areas. Even took the GMAT and wrote up some apps for MBA. But I went back to surveying for a big firm in Charlotte the summer after graduating. (if I stayed with that company a year they would pay for the MBA then it’s deuces)

Ended up quitting because I got in a fight with the party chief, and now I’m in pipeline again. So basically I drive my truck two hours to the job, sit in the truck and watch them dig, walk the lines for exercise, and then go home. It’s pretty nice.

Oh and I can take my dogs to work every day. But zero use of that degree.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, it only took me 10 years of college, but I do work in

Dec 14, 2017, 8:25 AM

my terminal degree field - Clinical Psychology.

BA in Political Science and English at CU (was going to Law School until I took that Con Law class my senior year).

Masters of Public Administration from UGA. Worked in State and Local gummint for about 7 years afterwards, the transitioned into the private sector.

Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from VCU. Been doing this since 2002. In private practice now and doing well. But alas, nothing will ever make up for the opportunity costs of missing years of real income while in grad school. Oh well. Que sera.

My advice to all young'uns - get trained in one practical skill that can make you money as young as possible, learn some basic business mgt skills, and adjust as needed going forward. You WILL have to adjust in today's economy, bc too many things are changing at a rapid rate, but get paid while you're making the needed moves.

Gone are the days of 40-year careers with the same business and a pension.

Dec 14, 2017, 8:47 AM

A Political Science degree helped me become the highly successful bloodthirsty post-apocalyptic warlord that I am today. The minor in Brutal Torture was really just icing on the cake. I've considered getting a masters in Heinous Murder, but the online class at the University of Phoenix isn't accredited yet.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not knocking online degrees or anything,

Dec 14, 2017, 9:26 AM

but Heinous Murder is really enhanced in an intimate classroom setting.
