C'mon guys- I have never complained once about life-changing

Jan 1, 2023, 9:40 AM

war injuries that are evident in every step I have taken for over 52 years nor blamed anyone responsible for placing me in that situation( not even the guy who pulled the trigger), and countless people here post over and over about things that they see as wrong about our football team. Why spend valuable time you have left on this earth to rant about things you have no control over and only serves to add to your misery ( I started to say "your miserable life" but I don't know what the rest of your lives are like, but if the words I read on here are any indication, maybe it is you who needs changes instead of our coaching staff). I know I am probably a lot older than most of the incessant complainers and have seen leaner years of Clemson sports but it still hurts after each loss but letting it affect my life for beyond a day isn't going to happen. Lighten up, look for something good to happen, and TD me all you want if that makes you feel better because that won't bother me at all. Happy New Year to all and I hope you have better days and a 15-0 season next year if you choose to continue being a Tiger fan. I know I will be in the Valley, cheer on the team no matter what, and visit as many tailgaters as I can on the way to the stadium if I am fortunate enough to survive until O.J.'s countdown ends.

I don't think you realize how hard life can be. Sure you were in charge of troops in Vietnam and have seen so much death and destruction. Sure you have been injured yourself. All of that said, we only won 11 games this year and Streeter might not be a good offensive coordinator. Let me know when you walk a mile in my shoes. I want better results in ACC football.

In March it'll be 50 years since the last of the American

Jan 1, 2023, 11:28 AM

troops came home from Vietnam after a peace agreement was signed. Paul Hardcastle had the song in the 80s called "19" about the average age of American soldiers in Vietnam as opposed to 27 for WW2. You were probably about that age when you went over there Clover right? With all the war protests, the soldiers were not welcomed when they came back and felt alone and betrayed. FWIW, thank you for your service.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was above average in age (if in nothing else)- I was 21

Jan 1, 2023, 11:47 AM

when I got there and turned 22 three days after getting shot - got a 2nd surgery for a birthday present. A little older since I spent 3 years at Clemson before leaving school and being drafted. But being in Walter Reed for so long, I didn't experience the negative attitudes upon returning because there were groups that visited the hospital every night of the week to uplift spirits and show appreciation. Being from a small southern town also helped .

You are right, BigAl31. I was 19 when I got in country. We were all very young. The oldest guy that graduated in my flight class was 24 and we called him "Pappy". Good post Clover, but I landed on the "freedom bird" at Travis in California and then caught a commercial flight in San Francisco and had a much different experience in my "welcome home"!

Hey Clover--
Thanks for your service, patriotism and love for Clemson University.
I am pretty certain that you realize that there are REAL Clemson Tiger fans and there are the "only winning" Clemson fans.
Our fanbase is like the general population--some devoted in any scene and others that only will accept victory as the goal. When we cannot be loyal in defeat, we do NOT DESERVE to gloat in winning. I am a TIGER and proud to salute you as one that has class.
Keep the faith for future days & seasons for Clemson!

Great perspective, Clover. And thank you for your service.

I have read "With the Old Breed" three or four times, it's my favorite book. And EB Sledge often has little asides about how he can't relate to people complaining about waiting in line, not getting what they want right away, etc.

I'll admit I'm hard/critical on Clemson at times myself, but hopefully it's just a distraction for me and everyone else to have some semi-educated banter. Life goes on and there are things more important.

Am bummed about Bresee today though!! Going to miss the guy.

POTD if not the year.

Glad I got to meet you this year and hope to see you at many more tailgates in the future. It is amazing and unsettling to me to see people let things like this affect them so negatively. I hate it when Clemson loses and I was in attendance at both ND and the Orange Bowl but certainly didn’t let the outcome of the games ruin what were otherwise fantastic trips.

Hope you have a great New Year!
