In the discussion about running down The Hill on TV, they never mention how it started originally. The football team used to dress in Fike Field House on the east (hill) end of the stadium. It was just that the quickest way to get from Fike to the football field was to run down the hill.

When the built the dressing rooms in the West end zone, the team stopped running down the hill for a period. Now, to get from the dressing rooms in the west side of the stadium to The Hill in east side, you need to take a bus.
