Clemson fans crying over the ACC?

Make me laugh! This conference did little to save itself over the last 5 years. Leadership was horrible and more attuned to holding some members back like Clemson and FSU with bigger and then bigger exit fees (hence the lawsuit on perception of this point). And it paid more than lip service to "we gotta get back to good basketball " rather than realizing football was the money driver. Where was the vision? Watching the PAC 10 fall apart but no solid plan to shore up the conference. Why hide the contract at the league office? Because eSECpn was really in charge? Hmm...oh yeah, Swofford's vision for his son came true, I guess. I have wanted Clemson to get out of this conference since the extra probation. And academics? Well UNC wrapped that up several years ago by offering pottery classes or some such nonesuch for athletes. Of course Clemson was the team stuck in football having to play the Yankees in Boston and Syracuse. And Notre Dame? Good God what a mess! Let's get the heck out of here for good! Clemson has dreams the ACC can't sustain. Go Tigers!!!!

Should have left the conference when UNC & Duke added another year of probation in 82.

Crying? I guess I missed the tears…

I will only cry if we end up in the Big12 as a result. That’s an obvious step down.

It's a step up. ACC minus UNC and FSU is definitely Sub Big 12. Big time sub Big 12.

Big 12 is not a step down from the ACC. When FSU leaves, ESPN will

Yall might want to take a gander at the list of Big12 teams. Garbage. Garbage that we would have to travel further to.

And, they are getting less than the ACC in the playoff funds distro.

Look at bottom half of acc that is garbage. If FSU miami and unc leave we better hope we are going with them.

Oh I agree, and I’m just talking about how the Big12 and ACC stand currently. If teams leave, sure that changes things. Clemson is leaving. It just better not be to go to the Big12 - that’s not an improvement.

Does anyone put stock in the reporting that neither the SEC or the BiG want to add Clemson or FSU? That would likely leave Clemson with no good choices. Either no good choices (which likely means stay put) or one of the two sees an advantage of adding both at the same time.

I don't know what dark smokey room the SEC makes its decisions in, but what I read today and yesterday is that they are more interested in Miami than either FSU or Clemson. After all the SEC bashing we've done do we really want to go there? Is it a case of if you can't beat 'em join 'em?

No. I would think the leaders at Clemson are smart enough not to file a lawsuit against their current conference without an $EC or BIG guarantee.

That dark smokey room they make decisions in is in Bristol, Connecticut.

The more I look at our complaint, the more I'm coming to the conclusion that this isn't about leaving the ACC--for now. It's about securing our media rights. Without that, leaving makes no sense whatsoever.

Neither FSU or Clemson would go this far without being told they have a seat at the table. The same for North Carolina.

Exactly! I agree with MOST of your post.

Specifically the statement "the Yankees in Boston". As I've learned from my Bostonian wife, "there are NO Yankees in Boston! We are Red Sox and Yankees are in NY!". I've learned this & live this.

We've made it to several Clemson games in Boston and it's a great time. AND, it's always fun when we beat those Northerners!

Go Tigers!
