My only issue with it is that it is a sourced whiskey. Meaning it is made and bottled in some place like Indiana and sold as "Chattanooga".. there is not a single barrel house in Chattanooga so can it be "Chattanooga" whiskey.. I just don't like all these Johnny Come Lately bourbon boomers. Uncle Nearest is another culprit.. another sourced whiskey that claims some ancient heritage. Kinda like buying something "assembled" in the USA but not "made" in the USA.. it just cheapens it somehow. But maybe that doesn't matter anymore either. I have heard several people talk about it being good.

They released sourced whiskey from MGP in Indiana when they first started, but their main product lines are now distilled and aged in Tennessee at both a main distillery and an experimental distillery. Some really interesting products are coming out of there now.
Unfortunately, for new distilleries to turn a profit and stay afloat they either have to source barrels or turn out another spirit like gin or vodka until their whiskey ages enough to bottle as a good product. Some places do a good job sourcing and are honest about it, but sadly some places lead people on and put out pretty bad product under the guise of an old story and clever marketing. Those bad outfits really irritate me as a bourbon drinker.

If they are actually distilling and aging in Chattanooga I would be willing to give them a try. I knew at one time they weren't so I just stayed away.

They are and it’s a really unique product. The main products are a high malt recipe. They’ve also made a name for themselves doing interesting experimental batches involving different malt variations. It may not be for everyone’s palate, but it’s unlike anything else in the bourbon market and definitely worth trying. The Cask 111 line is the better of the two for sure.

Well you convinced me. So if I see it will give it a try. But if it is bad I am going to blame you.....

Whiskey isn’t bourbon, it’s a blend.

Several whiskey's are made just like bourbon. They cannot be labeled as bourbon unless they are made in Kuntucky.

Hey, a lowly boheminan beer drinker here. I got a question

for you semi=professional "sloshers". Actually a two part question.
Is there a "break point" in the proof of bourbon / whiskey above which any flavor is just overcome by the alcohol content? And, if there is, what do you consider that number to be?

I like the proofs in the 90s, since I sip over a rock. I do have higher proofs, on the scotch side, too, but they need ice melt or a splash, for me.
One thing I notice between scotch (non-peat!!) and bourbon is scotch isn't alcohol-forward...many bourbons are, regardless of proof...not that it stops me...just have to adjust the palate!

Salty is spot on from my limited experience. For example, the alcohol content of Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Aged Whiskey (100 proof) is extremely pronounced. Yet, that is not the case with Chattanooga's Cask 111 at 111 proof.

Honestly it depends on the bourbon. I've had some 100-120 proof bourbons that are smooth. And I've also had some 80 proof that tasted like slighty flavored rubbing alcohol. I prefer to drink my bourbons and scotches neat, so that can make a difference. I think it's very subjective to the individual drinker.
