Cade may be the best QB, but we do not know after one

Sep 6, 2022, 12:52 PM

B team drive late in the game. And it would be a childishly bad coaching decision to make him starter now. We essentially nuke one of our 2 QB's if we make the switch now with such little evidence. It's just not an intelligent decision. Our best option is to keep winning games under DJ and wait and see if he gets back to his 2020 form. He had a decent game. We have two weeks of practice to get him running on all cylinders. He wasn't terribly far from it after his first game. I remember Deshaun looked shaky against Auburn in 2016. Deshaun was actually less accurate in that game. He ended up ok that year.

The narrative about DJ is so deeply rooted in many fans that there is no path for DJ to satisfy them. We all know about Deshaun and we all know about Trevor. So much inertia coming into this season has made a lot of people blind to the fact that DJ improved a lot yesterday and played better than any game last year.

DJ did not hold us back yesterday, NEARLY as much as the O-line and our limited scheme. You can't blame DJ on the limited scheme because his ACCURACY was ACTUALLY GOOD.

I said early in the season last year that our biggest problem was a QB problem. And it was. But that was not the case yesterday. DJ had a good game. He helped us more than he hurt us.

Now is the time to trust this coaching staff who has been more successful than 90% of us on here could ever imagine. Things are more complicated than most people understand. This is more complicated than going with your gut and putting in the guy YOU think gives us the best chance at a title. We need a leader who is more patient and circumspective than that. Let it play out naturally.

Cade will push DJ to be better. I rather see two talented winning quarterbacks than no quarterbacks.

Scheme was limited by the QB, OL looked worse than it is bc no one respects the deep ball or rpo with DJ in the game, and DJ had happy feet and threw quite a few terrible passes bc his footwork was awful. Idk what game the DJ lovers watched, yall must be the same crowd that cried when TLaw beat out KB. This ain't a Union job its a football team, results matter more than feelings and seniority.

I seriously doubt the scheme was limited very much by the quarterback. The offensive line was porous. A more mobile QB (like Klubnik) could likely have dodged some of those on-coming defensive linemen but not all night. Streeter seemed to call more running plays to the edge later in the game which helped. DJ is certainly not the running QB of the past Tiger teams and likely not as good a runner as Klubnik but it's way too early to bench DJ. Dabo will do it, if needed, when the time is right...

"DJ lovers?" "Cried when TLaw beat out KB?"

That's a silly mentality.

He did not throw out "quite a few terrible passes." That's simply counterfactual. He was accurate.

Cade hasn't had any true "results" yet, so your point about results mattering more than feelings are completely ironic.
