except I'd bold the "nap after" stuff...then bold it again.

oh, and I don't think I've ever gone to cut down a tree...would like to give that a whirl when my son's another 2-3 years older...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ALWAYS cut down a tree, even if it is on the neighbors lawn.***

at my in-laws.

whatever.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Looking back, it was a great thing to do

Nov 14, 2013, 10:02 AM [ in reply to almost the same (pre/post Elf on shelf addition 2 yrs ago) ]

We always left in the morning really early and went to Daniel Boone in for breakfast (family style servings that never end).

Then went to cut down the tree at a local farm.

Went to the Tanger outlets up in Blowing Rock

Went back to downtown Boone to go to the Mast General Store to get candy, of course.

Nov 14, 2013, 10:03 AM

I could wait to open presents without pissing my pants in a fury of anger.

So last year.

this is a nice thing (in addition to not pissing your pants)

Nov 14, 2013, 10:09 AM [ in reply to That came of age when I reached the age where ]

SheGUARCELLO's fam had a tradition of hanging out in her parents bedroom for coffee & donuts, and general caloric intake prior the cluster-eff that was opening presents....

it makes a ton of sense when you're not batshitkrzy about opening presents (last year for me too)

however, the 'hanging out in your parent-in-law's room' is...weird....to say the least

well, yeah...there's that

Nov 14, 2013, 10:26 AM

'lounge pants' aren't terribly effective in that dept.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Your sails are very visible in lounge pants

Nov 14, 2013, 10:31 AM

Had THAT problem on Christmas morning when before I found out the "tuck in waistband trick"

(also last year)

Sounds about like mine...However, I just now got out of

Nov 14, 2013, 10:34 AM [ in reply to My family is a little bit more traditional ]

doing the whole Christmas tree thing. Now that I have a house, I won't be staying over night anymore, either.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The tree thing stopped when I left for college

Nov 14, 2013, 10:40 AM

And I miss it dearly. My family is such a cluster of attitudes and personalities that it makes me miss the simplicity of those days going to get the tree and quality time with the family. I currently live the furthest away from my parents (1 hour, compared to my sisters 30 minutes), but for some reason it feels like we are states apart because of work and schedules and things like that.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsonrulez08.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Please forgive me, @IneligibleUser

Now that my sisters are older, we'd probably just all end

Nov 14, 2013, 11:03 AM

up drunk and unable to drive home. Plus, we'd probably all insist that we drove our own vehicle up there.

Re: Ours is very similar to that

Nov 14, 2013, 10:53 AM [ in reply to My family is a little bit more traditional ]

We're considering the live tree this year. Just need to figure out if Deputy ####### (my half-retard dog) will think he's outside or not.

We don't do the Christmas Eve present, tho. And some sort of healthy breakfast needs to be eaten before consuming Christmas cookies....

When we drink, we get drunk.
When we get drunk, we fall asleep.
When we fall asleep, we commit no sin.
When we commit no sin, we go to heaven.
So, let's all get drunk, and go to heaven!

I did. See below.

Nov 14, 2013, 9:57 AM

Albeit a little drastic for most, but it worked nonetheless.
