Beautiful dogs and I have seen some that were very well trained. But as puppies they are NUTS.

^^^yes^^^

They need regular exercise and training - if you don't have the time, get another breed.

You and the Boykin will not be happy if you don't have regular play time/training.

i got the best dog ever

Mar 8, 2013, 11:14 AM

mine is one year old this weekend and the laziest dog ever. Tried to take her running with me this morning. She walked outside and decided "nevermind" and turned around and got back in bed

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

got her from

Nope, I'd put my blue tick up against any dog out there.

He's just a pup and he already is too lazy to eat. He lays around 25 hours a day eight days a week.

I wonder if he'll chase a coon skin.

I've owned nothing but labs up until now

I'm used to hyper puppies.

Almost identical traits, without the chewing up everything

during the first 2 years. At least the pup that I have didn't. Not as hardheaded as labs either. Very easy to train. And, they eat half as much and take up less than half the space on the couch/bed.

I've also found that they, as a breed, don't stink unless they roll in something dead, which my dog will do.....anytime she finds it. Always the same rotten smelling stuff too.

Mine too.

I'm kinda surprised that after she crapped my floor this morning that she didn't roll around in it.

Oustide of crapping on my floor this morning

our Boykin has been a joy. Plus, I peed on her.

We got her from a guy in Holly Hill - he advertised in the State paper and bred champion field trial dogs. He was an older dude with approx 180 acres and had 9 adult breeding dogs that had the run of the place. Boykin Heaven.

I've looked mult times but can't find him online - it isn't Gun Dog Breeders in Holly Hill although they look to have good dogs. Can't remember his name - sorry, it was almost 8 years ago.

Ours was $500 - she was the puppy of a field trail champ father and a "pet" mother. The ones that had champion bloodlines on both sides were going for $1000. My wife picked her by sitting down in the midts of about seven puppies and the first one that crawled in her lap is the one she picked, lol.

You can tell she has retrieving instincts - she's pretty amazing about going after throwing dummies - water/woods/brush wherever. Easily trained.

They're great dogs. Also check out Boykin Spaniel rescue if you're not set on a puppy.

Most "reputable" breeders will have a wait list and application process for prospective buyers. Some will even have "breeding rights" contracted. And, most are snobs.

When I decided to get one, I searched 4 states...SC,NC,GA and TN. One gentleman, that I had contacted about a litter that was no longer available, recommended Ron Knuckles at Rainbow Lake Kennels, in Fingerville, SC. I got the runt and last one left out of the litter. Could not have made a special request and gotten a better all-around dog. Fantastic hunter and pet. Sire's pedigree was very impressive, with bloodlines from Justduckys kennel and Rocking Creek. ### had some Edisto running through.

Ron Knuckles is just a regular ol' folk, that has a nice program of field dogs. I would purchase another dog from him.

Should be easy to find. I'm having a really hard time

Mar 8, 2013, 11:19 AM

finding someone who breeds a rabid wolf/chupacabra mix.

I would also consider Black Creek Boykins.

Pageland, SC. Good folks with nice dogs.

Donnie and Pattie Pigg. You can find them on bookface.
