Bowls mean nothing to me these days

Nov 30, 2012, 2:36 PM

In the current format, there is no excitement. Before the horrid BCS and conference tie ins it was exciting. Bowl reps attended games , tried to sell their city, woo a team . It meant something, there was an element of suprise and anticipation.

A team that travelled well, and the Tigers certainly do, was a prize for that bowl and city.

Clemson frequent trips to the Gator built a recruiting stronghold in the Jacksonville area.

Now it is all predetermined, attendance is off and the dates are scattered in a crazy fashion.

I miss the days when a college football junkie could get his or her fix on New Years Eve and New Years Day and then recover.

Thats just me !

For the most part I am with you. But the money now is not with A$$es in the stands and cheering away but TV sets turned on and TV advertising.

Still sad

I am so sick of the all mighty buck destroying college football I could just puke .

Sorry, but it has robbed me of one of my favorite things .

I think it is a crime.

Ask me how I rally feel.

Nov 30, 2012, 3:37 PM

is it the same as the past? NO, money is ruining football, BCS is garbage and expansion is really killing the game, taking rivalries away. But how can anyone not get jacked for a Clemson vs LSU or UF game

I hope we get LSU, let's punch them in the mouth and decide who gets to be the real Tigers and who has the real Death Valley.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed. Now 70 teams play in bowls, SEVENTY! Absurd.***

Re: Bowls mean nothing to me these days

I think the biggest problem stemming from the predetermined bowl tie-ins is the match-ups themselves. Bowls used to have the freedom to create the best game with their invitations, now they are limited to the 3rd pick from the ACC vs. the 5th team from the MAC or whatever.

I remember, like you do, getting excited when the matchups were announced because you didn't know until then. The unkown opponents like Illinois and Cal made it fun.
