Anybody know Ryan Norton's actual weight?

Aug 15, 2012, 12:31 PM

If he's potentially our starter at G, I'd imagine he's beefed up sufficiently from 265, which is what T-Net has him listed at.

Having said that, he's gotten consistent praise from the coaching staff, so I'm happy his hard work is paying off.

GO TIGERS!

I played basketball with him the other day. I wouldn't say he was much over 265, if over it at all.

With our offensive system, fleet-footed lineman are preferable to big, immobile 300 lb lineman. Much like the zone-blocking scheme, technique is valued over size. These guys don't have to hold blocks long before Ellington is 5 yards downfield.

Zone or not, you still have to be able to move people.

A big reason we basically abandoned the inside zone last year is because we couldn't get a push, even with the angles that zone blocking is supposed to provide.

Pistol involves a lot of straight ahead blocking assignments, too.

I'm hopeful that Morris and Caldwell have them coached up. And you can be 300 lbs and still be mobile.

agreed ^^^

Very possible for players to be 300 and still mobile...Look at Levon Kirkland... Norton needs to put on weight.

Good rebuttal...

I know Ryan personally....

and I would say that 265 is about right althoug I haven't seen him since sometime in early June. He may not be real big but he is as strong as a bull. Anyone who underestimates him will be making a very big mistake.
