You said the short sellers had the most to gain. They do not Trump does. Even if the allegations are true there’s no way anyone could naked sell anywhere near the number of shares they would have to in order to approach Trump’s position. What could they do manipulate the price on 5% of the shares? Even if they aren’t actually borrowing the stock first they still have to find a market for the shorts. Trump owns 65% of the shares; there’s no comparison to the amount he could benefit from fraudulently inflating the value of the company.
